OM SHANTI
September 2, 2002
Om Shanti.
(I am a peaceful soul.)
Peaceful
as the ancient wise old
stones
that rise up gray
against a brooding sky
as detached
as the dove-shaped clouds
that wisp serenely
by
Our souls have
traveled
far
'cross distant galaxies
from their home of silence
beyond the stars
From the moment we are born,
we are returning
along a pathway
that is
uniquely
ours
Om Shanti
I am a very
peaceful soul.
Tell me your dream,
and is it peaceful too?
How came we here
to this veiled question
written on the sky?
Another path diverging:
walk on,
or just go by
We live this life like a dream
that is dreaming itself.
Bemused we ponder
the way
we're meant to take
We sleepwalk
through our
solitary choices
and, at dream's end,
of one accord,
we wake.

Greetings sweet Sherry. Thank you for your kind words about my blog. I always enjoy hearing from visitors and their observations of my little world. Blessings to you and those you love. Sea Witch
ReplyDeleteenjoyed your meditation this on peace. resonated very much with it :-)
ReplyDeleteThis was so worth a re-run. Finely written about universal feelings in your individual style.
ReplyDeleteI especially like:
ReplyDelete"We live this life like a dream
that is dreaming itself."
The piece overall reminded me of "The Dream Song."
Om Shanti.
ReplyDeleteOh Sherry this reads as a meditation and a comfort. The last stanza is exquisite and will stay with me.. "at dream's end of one accord we wake." Wow!
ReplyDeleteBeautifully said and excellent ending.
ReplyDeleteSherry, this definitely reads like a sort of meditation. Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteI am a peaceful soul after yours and Mary's poems back to back.
ReplyDeletewe sleepwalk through our solitary choices...such a hauntingly powerful line! peace be with you Sherry.
ReplyDeleteInner peace seems to be to be a journey of a lifetime. Thank you for this meditative piece, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteRight! Dimensions inside dimensions, and universes inside their parallel counterparts! Dreams inside dreams! We do walk thus. Not on land, but on this 'space'.
ReplyDeleteThe last para reminded me of how at times we wake up suddenly from a dream as if we'd fallen into a deep abyss.
Beautifully written, very peaceful and dream like.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous, through and through. Dreamy and yes, peaceful! Each stanza was as lovely as the next. I like the second stanza the best, and love the ending.
ReplyDeleteOh, to be a peaceful soul!
ReplyDeleteThis is one of the best poems I have read. Such beautiful imagery, takes my breath away.
ReplyDelete"From the moment we are born,
ReplyDeletewe are returning
along a pathway
that is
uniquely
ours"
I am so happy you thought to bring forward other peace poems you have written. This one rocks, cradle-like, as I read, so by the end I waken to peace that is around me and not a dream. Thank you. It could be the mountain itself speaking.
Well, I could have sworn I commented on this one.....good thing I checked back. I like the idea of as soon as we are born we are on our way back returning. So true, but people don't realize that for a long time...if ever...or at least think about it in that way.
ReplyDeletea peaceful and profound pounding.
ReplyDeletehappy new year Sherry Blue Sky!
I love where this peaceful walk took me. Such wisdom, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteSuch a wonderful place this piece took me to--it reads as a beautiful meditation, especially your last stanza--Happy New Year to you!
ReplyDeleteWe live this life like a dream that is dreaming itself... what a line, Sherry! Pondering that is eye-opening in and of itself. The rest of this peace-invoking poem is just as delightful, insightful. Thank you!
ReplyDelete"We live this life like a dream
ReplyDeletethat is dreaming itself." ... Brilliant and thought-provoking line, Sherry. And so much "peace inspiration' here, too. namaste.
I enjoyed the way this reads...the bits of rhyme, the flow of it...so peaceful.
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteI am pleased to have visited The Pantry today....Your words are as the form of a serene prayer. An absolute joy to imagine and to reflect upon.
Best Late Sunday Wishes,
Eileen:)
