Walls

[Response to Poets United Think Tank Prompt #14 - Walls]

The walls came up
so high
no man
could climb over
them,
even with
their cleated shoes,
even with their
manly determination,

but my friends did.
By waiting gently outside,
watering the blooms
and weeds
around
my front gate,
waiting for me to
feel safe enough
to open the door,
to pass through the gate,
to walk with them
side by side
down the
winding path.

  2. Thanks, Pamela. It is funny, I was wrestling with the whole Walls concept, trying to work up a whole epic, and suddenly I thought of this and wrote it in two seconds. It is so true. Friends rock!

  6. There are few things more comforting than the shelter to be found in a trusted friend...this poem illustrates that beautifully, Sherry. So glad I get to call you friend...:)

  7. "but my friends did." <---love that part, mainly because...that's how I usually begin my pieces; with half finished sentences, I start fire lol. I like this one, if it were pie...I'd eat it......mmm....pie...

  13. You managed to find the positive in what is a very negative aspect of human consciousness. I felt my heart opening up as I read the second stanza.
