The song of the sea
is full of s's,
sibilant, sussurrating,
singing waves,
singing waves,
seaspray, salty,
slips and slides,
slips and slides,
seabirds sailing
surf and sky,
seahorse, starfish,
castles, shells,
scent of seaweed
casts a spell.
castles, shells,
scent of seaweed
casts a spell.
sunset shining,
shimmering shore.
shimmering shore.
I sink,
I sink,
and leave no more.
I fall under the spell of this poem, especially the slips and slides which bring everything else closer. Sinking thus makes me think of Excalibur. Hah! And I say stay, stay and stroll there for many a day.
ReplyDeletei think this little one could be a mantra for meditation specially the last rhythmic lines...and of course i'll repeat what says Susan :)
ReplyDeletescent of seaweed

This is so enchanting Sherry :D
Oh, this was very creative the sound of S - in this sizzling summer poem.
ReplyDeleteI do enjoy the song of the sea!
Sherry this is so beautiful. Who best to write this song than someone who loves the ocean so much. But no, you will not sink - the ocean will float you.
ReplyDeletei listened to the song of the ocean just a week ago. it seems so far away. i tied my toes into the sand and let the waves lift me and let me fall as they may.
ReplyDeletenice use of the s sound in this as well. as it shushes us.
I absolutely loved this clever poem...praising the sea...such imagination and your words conjured up my senses of when I visit the sea....slipping in the sand and salty water.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful sea song! I enjoyed reading it :)
ReplyDeleteI love the closing...the notion of sinking to sea for all eternity...peaceful, for me. Thank you, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteThis was near hypnotic to read aloud. Loved.
ReplyDeleteHypnotizing, Sherry. I really like the S's here. LOL, I remember writing one haiku with all the words starting with S.
ReplyDeleteSsssuper poem!!!
ReplyDeleteI love it :) This will make a great phonetic song too for the proper application of 'Ss'
ReplyDeleteSuperb...this poem has a delightful sound/ a melody. Real work of art, Sherry!!
ReplyDeleteand when i was residing in the oceans beach head, the 's' i would be most cognizant of was...'shhh'...listen to it's voice for it has traveled the world and beyond. it carries the voice of the Universes spirits...'shhh', listen !
ReplyDeleteyour voice in this piece, mi amiga, inspired this memory. gracias !
The susurration of the sea clearly has you under her spell Sherry!
ReplyDeleteSo much fun, your play with sibilants – and so vividly descriptive of the ocean.
ReplyDeleteSea, ships, slips, slide, surrender, sunsets, shore, sink, silly, sad, someday....so many words belong to the sea.
ReplyDeletenice - the sound of the sea is full of magic... yearnng to listen to her songs again... the s's carry your song beautifully
