The Tree of My Being

Photograph by Raluca Caragea

I leaped into the mirror
of my unknowing,
climbed a distant hill,
with difficulty encountering
the Tree of my Being,
and learning at last
the Art of Being Still.

Arms turned into branches,
waving in the breeze.
With all my leaves at ease,
my trunk grew strong and sure.
My transformation had come
just in time,
made stalwart, stout,
so that I might
endure.

  1. Great, Sherry!! I wish I could find the Tree of my Being, but it is probably too late for me, one of the 'old dogs.'

  9. Wow, Sherry! I love ‘leaped into the mirror / of my unknowing’ and ‘encountering / the Tree of my Being’. The pandemic has taught me the Art of Being Still. A wonderful transformation – I hope to come back as a tree.

  10. I think in the looking glass you found your inner heart that beats with nature and you became rooted to the earth. Beautiful writing.

How it could be so, Sherry! However human failings or weaknesses are no match to the invisible virus causing havoc overturning the whole fabric of living, human decency and feelings.

  17. Love, Love, love, LOVE! To leqaop into the clouds of unknowing is what I'd like to do, tho my entrance is often slow--so your mirror of unknowing rang my chimes. The vision is perfect all the way through.

  18. I love this. I suppose life can be thought of as an endurance test and we surely need a strong trunk for it.
