In the Footsteps of the Matrilineal
In the footsteps of the matrilineal,
the rough tongues, the strong backbones,
the endurance, the thwarted dreams,
the holding on
the letting go
the eventual lifting up
out of sorrow,
the bursting open into joy
In the footsteps of strong women,
I have made my way
forged a new path
built on dreams
made a place
where I can stay.
for The Sunday Muse, a mother's day-ish kind of poem

I count on you to life my spirits, which you have.
ReplyDeleteWell it's certainly 'ish' enough. Enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteYou definitely have forged your own path, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteHow can one poem, seem to say it all? And you have.
ReplyDeleteThis is so true to your journey and strong and brave heart. I love this Sherry! It was so worth the wait!
ReplyDeleteYes, stay. You've worked so hard to achieve your dream. You're strong and wise now. So stay.
ReplyDeleteMatrilineal footsteps... I always did like to walk in my mother's shoes. Now my daughter walks in mine.
