Mount Arrowsmith, Port Alberni,
seen from the Quay
In dream, I am a dark-haired girl,
a long plait hanging down my back,
snapping black laughing eyes,
impish smile.
and you? you are smitten,
small half-smile, appraising eyes
that say you like what you see.
In dream your arms
close around me from behind
and I am held all night long,
till I wake,
wondering, since we were so real,
was that past-life memory?
Did you find me only in dream
this lifetime,
as you once found me before?
You must have known
how badly
I needed
a hug.
And so, in dream, you came.
mmmm. Regardless of what heartbreak took this one from you, the return in dream time to hug and to hold sounds lovely.
ReplyDeleteinteresting vision..I hope the hug brought comfort my friend..
ReplyDeleteSounds like a bitter-sweet dream. It's nice though, to feel a lingering warmth enough after waking to write these beautiful lines. ((Hugs)) to you, Sherry :)
ReplyDeletelovely, Sherry!

Oh, Sherry....this poem really gives me a lump. I think sometimes we are given in a dream what we might need. Take that hug as a sign that you are hugged and loved. Carry it with you throughout the day.
ReplyDeletewhat a sweet love affair, it continues across time warp
ReplyDeletehave a nice Sunday. happy you dropped in at the Sunday Lime

A really lovely poem Sherry.
ReplyDeleteIt sounds like a beautiful dream, or is it a memory?
ReplyDeleteRegardless, nice experience.
Maybe he'll return tonight.
Vancouver Island has such incredible, surreal vistas. Lucky you. And you've pinned such a tender, exquisite dream - beautifully drawn - against it. An awesome post!
ReplyDeleteSo touching, Sherry....I think dreams can feel so real that sometimes it's like they really are giving us exactly what we needed. The mountain in that photo is beautiful!
ReplyDeleteI like this poem. This is a sweet and sour dream, Sherry. Sometimes they feel so real it is hard to shed them off in the morning. I wish it was not just a dream.
ReplyDeleteI am thinking of an angel, smiles ~ This is a lovely dream Sherry and who wouldn't want a hug?
ReplyDeleteI could practically feel that night-long hug myself, and the deep peace it engendered.
ReplyDeleteOh, I really really like this Sherry and thank you for your comments today,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I love the mystery created by your words and the longing gives it a poignant touch...
ReplyDeleteA hug in a dream can have the reality of real hands wrapping around, what a wonderful and yet a little sad thought. This is wonderful and still a little sad Sherry... Like life
ReplyDeleteI hope that even in dreams the hug made you feel better somehow. Smiles. That photo, ah, it's breath taking!
ReplyDelete- ksm
virtual hug from here, Sherry :) ~
ReplyDeleteAh, past life memory, inaccessible, (perhaps reached only via dreams), but so strongly experienced, in any case. I am glad you felt the warmth and love of those loving hands.
ReplyDeletePoppy

ReplyDeleteSometimes all we need is a hug.. I hope it brought some comfort Sherry. Lovely click.. there is so much to see in just one life.. not fair!
ReplyDeleteDreams are another door to meet those who are not with us
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteA longing which must still wish fulfillment for those same hugs. I place so much importance in the value of hugging. The memories can endure. A lovely and emotional poem of dreamy wishes.
Hope you find some hugs today Sherry. They are deserved:)
Eileen

ReplyDeletemade me smile...even in a dream, it is so good to have those who know you well enough to know you need a hug...
ReplyDeleteI needed a hug.
ReplyDeleteAnd so, in dream, you came.
The dreams give the same effect when one is in its throes of delight. A hug is a hug even in our dreams!
Hank
Such a visit is a welcome one.
ReplyDeleteHow I love this: the longing and the hug.
ReplyDeleteI am currently rereading The Best of Charles de Lint, and your play with dream and (agreed upon) reality puts me right into the stories.
In dreams, we can find anything... and keep it. ♥
Wow. That was simply superb, Sherry....contains the promise of love, faith and hope. Hugs grease the sore heart ...:)
