Strange angels have visited my life
and wandered through my byways.
I see them from
the corners of my eyes
as they flit up the staircase,
gray and golden.
Who will come,
when the naked moon
rises up over the mountain,
and the wolves howl,
forlorn, in the hidden valleys?
Strange angels,
to show me the way.
At Real Toads Marian set us a prompt to write something inspired by Laurie Anderson, whom I have always loved, especially her song Strange Angels. I was struck by her image of the sun coming up "like a big bald head", which is where the naked moon comes from. The rest is just about my resident ghosts, who flutter near, sometimes.
For me it is strange saints. Very cool piece!
ReplyDeleteThis is really lovely.
ReplyDeleteI love the combination of colours in 'gray and golden', suggesting the transparency of your strange angels, as well as the light that shines around them.
ReplyDeleteyes, yes-- i can see them from here. xo
ReplyDeleteBeautifully put, Sherry, and the photo goes well with your gray and golden angels.
ReplyDeleteLuv, K

Strangels, then - not to be confused with strangles!
ReplyDeleteI very much like this imagery, Sherry ~
Strange angels indeed! I guess they're better than devils!
ReplyDeleteI get angels and ghosts, too, Sherry, especially in this new-old house. Their are SO many dimensions of life and living.
ReplyDeleteThere is a certain eeriness to your words. The imagery is clear and the feeling is felt. Those strange angels and their showing the way may well be a good omen.
ReplyDeleteInteresting and well written.

Wonderful lines Sherry..the contrast..grey and golden....loved it..:-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sherry… so many angels meet us with messages when we least expect them.
ReplyDeleteSo many angels all around us, Sherry. Sometimes a homeless person, sometimes a helping hand, sometimes the glimmer of the moon on frozen snow reminds me of angels. Loved your use of color in this! Be well and warm, Amy
ReplyDeletestrange angels...yes, i believe we are surrounded by beings we cannot see.
ReplyDeletethis poem flowed so well, and makes one ponder on the wonderous, beautiful, unanswered questions of this life!
