When the Going Gets Weird......

net.newsment.com

When the going gets weird,
the weird turn pro,
my Sis told me,
with pride
and sisterhood,
acknowledging
my excellence
at weirdness.
Weird has always
felt familiar.
Weird comes with
its own
built-in laughter.
Weird makes
the ordinary
stretch its wings
and try a little harder.
Weird puts a shine on
and does a little tap-dance
just to entertain you.
Weird turns a world of
Anybodies
into
Somebody Specials
with their
amazing,
totally unbelievable
stories.
If Weird could speak,
it would tell you:
Come sit by me,
sweetheart,
and let me tell you
a few good tales.

  1. Weird is the new normal so I feel ready for your tales.

  2. Neat! I like the built-in laughter, stretched wings, tap dance and, of course, the tales! In high school my friends and I of Chess Club and Math Club and Band put up signs saying "Be weird. It's easier," but it really wasn't quite the thing back then. This gave me a big grin.

  5. Oh I love to be weird .. if only it is by choice and we are not called weird when we crave for normality.. I had a big smile on my face reading your poem.

  9. Sherry, this is such a treat. I read about five times--in my head, aloud, half-singing, laughing while I read it... It's just that delicious.

May we always exercise our "built-in" mirth muscles! ♥

  12. I'm liking this, Sherry. The ending is special, showing some semblance of normality. " If Weird could speak,... Come sit by me, Sweetheart...", so inviting after a lot of weirdness.

  13. I've spent over an hour trying to figure out what the cute little (and weird looking) animal is. I figured on a rat of some type, perhaps from Australia?

  14. Why be normal? ;) Our paths would never have crossed by taking that route.

  15. I like being normal...except no one apart from me thinks I am... LOL

  17. It does seem "weird" does speak more freely these days and "nerds" are proud to say they are "nerds". Who wants to be normal and predictable? Really cute fellow you found for this poem!

  18. I'm really taken by the last four lines there. It seems to turn the tone of the poem to a more serious note.

  21. That creature is so weirdly beautiful and I love this:

    "Weird turns a world of
    Anybodies
    into
    Somebody Specials
    with their
    amazing,
    totally unbelievable
    stories."

    So true!
