You tried our patience.
You scared us to death.
During a global pandemic,
you sent heat domes, wildfires
tornadoes, hurricanes and floods.
We lost forests, highways,
crops, homes, whole towns.
Some people and so many animals died.
There are not enough tears
in the world for all of our pain.
And yet.....
this earth is so beautiful.
It takes my breath away.
As we see the new year in,
we are hopeful, happy,
ready to do it all
again.

We do remain hopeful, even with all the chaos over the past year.
ReplyDeleteGood work Sherry and amen. Somehow our poems are finding a vantage between horrible losses and astounding beauty. We are both now - extremes in one round. Keep up the great work.
ReplyDeleteMuch needed, that hope, considering the devastation of last year. Happy new year to you, Sherry. And thank you so much for your poetry.
ReplyDeleteSadly I dont feel as positive as you do Sherry.Just trying to enjoy life's myriad little bits and pieces of beauty.
ReplyDeleteI dont feel at all hopeful, Rall, given lack of action at the governmental level. But I am clinging to the beauty of the natural world as a means of surviving. Today the snow is coming down and a gale is expected. Very unusual weather for our coastal location.
ReplyDeleteI like this, Sherry, it acknowledges the year that was, but ends on a note of hope (that's what we need!)...JIM
ReplyDeleteWe do have to keep hope alive in the new year!
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful. That last stanza melted my cold pessimistic heart. I really enjoyed this
