First Nations Dancers
rhythmic feet
dancing at the powwow,
red thunderbird
on her black robe
remembering
a sister, a cousin,
a mother, a daughter,
the painful past
that set them walking
along the highway of tears
on which they
disappeared
wear red today
for all the broken hearts
for all the lost dreams
for all the families grieving
rhythmic feet
dancing at the powwow
remembering
those who once
were here
wear red today
for all the broken hearts
Today we are to wear red in awareness of over a thousand missing and murdered aboriginal women and girls in Canada. Four commissions have not brought any answers or resolutions. The movement's facebook page is here.
I'm wearing red.
