A wise old tree whispered
to me recently
that it is essential, now,
to move from
our heads to our hearts,
to connect our hearts' rhythm
to the ancient heartbeat
of Mother Earth.
"Align your limbs,"
she murmured,
"to feel calm and centered.
When the harsh winds blow,
grow still.
Plant your roots deeply,
so you can weather
the North Wind's
blast of cold.
"From this place of love,
be at one
with all of life.

Unfurl your branches,
Raise them high.
Reach and grow.
Embrace each year,
each circle
on your trunk
with gratitude.
Open your eyes
to Beauty.

Open your heart
To Wonder.
To Wonder.
"Rest your weary head
upon earth's mossy pillow.
Gaze at clouds,
at stars.
Listen to Mother Earth's
song of love
for all creation.
Love her back,
with every beat
of your heart."
This is part of a poem I wrote for a challenge recently, at Real Toads. As I used only a few words from this for the challenge, I offer it here, as I am under the weather tonight, and at least I'm posting Something.

What beautiful and wise sentiments, Sherry. I do think we must listen to Mother Earth...and also love her back along with all creation!
ReplyDeleteHi, Sherry, This would play well in the "What is Love? challenge too. Feel better! There's a very neat self-interview posted by Izzy in the Garden when you feel up to it!
ReplyDeleteEach ring a marriage.

ReplyDeleteLove is threaded through this piece...
ReplyDeleteAlign your limbs...love that. The whole piece is a mantra...It would be a beautiful spoken word piece.
ReplyDeleteVisiting once again for Poetry Pantry, Sherry. So much wisdom in this. This time I think about the verse about planting roots deeply so that we can weather winter's storm. Important, I think, to dig in while we can!
ReplyDeleteSherry, I am always impressed at how you make us see how connected to Nature we are, or should be.
ReplyDeleteI talk to the trees. That's why they locked me away.
ReplyDeleteThank you for bringing this voice of ancient wisdom to us Sherry...
ReplyDeleteHope you feel better soon.
ReplyDeleteHope the Earth feels better soon as well. Some hope.

We should definitely pay more attention to the trees - they are a good sign as to how healthy our environment is. Nothing worse than the sight of sickly trees.
ReplyDeletethere is so much to learn from trees...i like hte wisdom you captured...root deep....keep your arms reaching...hold others loosely as they nest....you gotta listen to the trees to understand, you know....smiles.
ReplyDeleteRest your head and recover in the bower of this wisdom - Lovely poem
ReplyDeleteThe wise old tree whispered...and you listened!
ReplyDeleteI am glad to see this again. Had we a choice--would we rather be slaughtered as a human or as a tree? Where did that question come from? Your poem--now you'll see how cray I am--made me think of the Little Mermaid. What people/fish/trees do for love. Let us become trees if we can.
ReplyDeleteSherry - first hope you are feeling better and second - loved this from the title on - such good advice that I need at this moment - thanks - K
ReplyDeletebeautiful as always, meditative.
ReplyDeleteSweet song from the tree... sung in a beautiful voice such as yours.

ReplyDeleteSo important now to connect to nature... Its leaving and we can barely live without... Loved your poem!
ReplyDeleteI love that message to love her back, with every beat of your heart ~
ReplyDeleteMother Nature, oh how I love her. (being raised on Smurfs and Captain Planet of the 80s and 90s, I have a special place in my heart for her and what she stands for). Good one Sherry!

Love the wisdom of your tree, but then, you had to know I would...still struggling with all the poems, but inching my way through it,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
This is so beautifully true! 'Open your eyes to Beauty. Open your heart to Wonder.' It feels as if your heart just spoke to mine. . . We belong to Mother Earth! I really enjoyed reading your words :)
