In the long ago,
when the world was young,
Sky Woman fell to earth,
landing on the back of a turtle,
clutching seeds and dreams.
Her (and our) instructions:
to use her gifts for good.
The animals helped her
to make a world.
Plants made food
from seeds and light and water,
and gave it all away
that all might live.
The hole in the sky
through which Sky Woman fell
is still sending beams of light,
bathing we wayward humans,
in an effort to awaken
our remembering.
The light is urging us
to transform this world
back to its beginnings,
when plants, animals and sky
breathed us into the world,
and everything was one.
We are being asked
to remember:
we are all
Sky Woman's people.
This is. beautiful, Sherry. What a wonderful legend. I like remembering that we are all Sky Woman's people. This poem SO fits you!
ReplyDeleteStar dreaming Sky Woman - that's you, Sherry...Mary is so right!
ReplyDeleteI've never read anything like this. So well written and it introduced me to an entirely new creation story, and a new belief system. So thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful story told so poetically. I hadn't heard of Sky Woman before this Earthweal challenge but I completely agree with her guidance. Suzanne - Mapping Uncertainty
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful read Sherry!
ReplyDelete.
Such a difference between being loved into a recognition (thanks Skywoman & her Earth) versus being commanded to accepts it (hence the Fall). Amen.

DeleteI send her bottles of perfume at Christmas!
ReplyDeleteA straightforward--and so effective retelling of Sky Woman--a beginning to return to again and again. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteI much prefer this story to that of Eden and The Fall. We are living in Eden, still: if only we would realise!
