As I sat on a log,
those years ago,
wondering if you loved me,
pink clouds,
puffy and portentous,
crept across
my evening sky.
I thought this must be what
the floor of heaven
looks like.
And now you are on
the other side
of those clouds.
You did love me,
just not in the way
I hoped for.
We stalked sunsets together,
shared songs and laughter,
supported each other
for 38 years.
A friendship like that
never knows
a sunset.
for Sumana's prompt at Midweek Motif: Sunset. I live in the land of beautiful sunsets!
Lovely. To have a friendship like that is one of the joys of life.
ReplyDeleteLovely. No, a friendship like that knows no sunset. I really like the description of the sunset as the floor of heaven. I never thought of it like that. An amazing thought.
ReplyDeleteThere is an aboriginal tale about how stars are holes in the floor of heaven, made by oxen, through which our loved ones can look down on us.
ReplyDeleteThis makes me imagine friendship extending back around to childhood, lying on those clouds like a tile floor and dreaming
