call of mourning dove, hoot of owl,
fresh new leaves rustling on green willow,
creek trickling over rocks, singing a morning song.
I open my door to the beauty near at hand.
The mountains teach patience.
The river teaches joy.
Trees are the wisdom-keepers.
The ocean sings a song of life
that echoes in our hearts.
I open my soul to the expansiveness of Sky,
the deep mystery of the heavens,
moon and stars and clouds and swirling planets,
each in its perfect place.
As we are, no matter what we face.
It is all here ~
everything we need, for wonder ~
our souls rise up in response,
like candles, catching the flame and flaring,
like hearts, catching the light and sharing,
warm, like the sun coming out,
after a long winter.

Window to Door to Soul to Sun--oh, my! Lovely.
ReplyDeleteAnd it is all there in your poem too, beautifully expressed and shared.
ReplyDeleteReally like 'souls, like candles catching flame and flaring' What a gorgeous image, Sherry,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Beautiful.
ReplyDeleteYes,Sherry, it is all here...everything we need! We just have to open the door.
ReplyDeleteThis is so beautiful and inspiring.
ReplyDeleteMay you enjoy a glorious Easter.
wow...each word is breathing joy.."our souls rise up in response,
ReplyDeletelike candles, catching the flame and flaring, / like hearts, catching the light and sharing," my favorite lines.
Love the souls igniting like candles... especially considering I open my window to urban sounds and smells.. hardly uplifting.
ReplyDeleteToo many people miss it all because they are looking at their phones.
ReplyDeleteThere is no better happiness than being content with what you have. It is always good to read or hear words like this.
ReplyDeleteThis is imbued with a sense of peace and well-being.
ReplyDeleteIn truth, we need little in this world, and what we truly need has been supplied. Glory!
ReplyDeleteThis is what I need, Sherry. Just peace of mind while waiting for my job applications. You painted serenity and comfort very well :)
ReplyDeleteI wish I could open my door to such wonders Sherry
ReplyDeleteThis is absolutely exquisite, Sherry. Wherever we are, there is beauty around us, if we but open our eyes and hearts to it. Thank you for sharing!
ReplyDeleteThe beauty of nature sustains us. All gifts from the Creator.
ReplyDeleteOh this reads like a prayer. I really enjoyed it.
ReplyDeleteOh dear! Certainly one of my favorites! I love the mourning dove, a lovely bird! And the songs you hear, the soul songs. Thank you for this wonderful writie.
ReplyDeleteThis is simply beautiful Sherry. I love the lessons of nature and I love this poem.
ReplyDeleteLuv the influence of nature on your heart
ReplyDeleteHappy Easter Sherry, thank you for dropping in at my Sunday Standard today
much love...
This is a beautifully constructed piece, Sherry. I love the way it builds – the opening up of the: window … door … soul … ‘like the sun coming out, after a long winter.’ Wonderful! I feel rather buoyant and sunny after that read. And, as it turns out, the sun is actually ‘out’ here in Vancouver, on this Easter Sunday, gifting the day with a wee bit of pathetic fallacy (the good kind ~ ha ~)
ReplyDeleteOh this is soo beautiful, Sherry!❤️ Especially love; "I open my soul to the expansiveness of Sky, the deep mystery of the heavens, moon and stars and clouds and swirling planets, each in its perfect place. As we are, no matter what we face."❤️
ReplyDeleteBeautiful,Sherry. xox
ReplyDeleteYou open my ears, we lean out together, and I hear the music with you. Still beautiful,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Opening the door, is but the first step, in moving forward, in accepting the wider world, around us. In becoming one, with the universe.
ReplyDeletelove this one ~
