Wonderful photo by The Unknown Gnome
I selected what went in with great care:
wolf howls and a shaman with wise kind eyes;
a big black wolf whose eyes and memory
never leave me; hope and love
and trust in the divine,
waves rolling endlessly onto sandy beaches,
and an old-growth forest, breathing peace;
music and puppy paws,
wagging tails and doggy smiles,
lions and elephants, whalesong
and birds on the wing,
and I packed them all in together,
leaving nothing out,
because it is everything I love,
and because it is my heart.
One from August, 2016, my friends, shared with the Poetry Pantry at Poets United, where there is wonderful reading to be had every Sunday morning.
What a full and beautiful heart that would be!

ReplyDeleteWell that brings on the tears Sherry. It is so easy to write about the love you have received from others whether it be people or more especially animals that have made your days so full with the true meaning of love.
ReplyDeleteYou pack well.
ReplyDeleteThe best things we can have... I wonder why people don't realize this
ReplyDeleteA wonderful way to consider the things one holds most dear.
ReplyDeleteThat would be my kind of heart...so beautiful.
ReplyDeleteSuch beautiful memories, to hold and treasured, in your heart, Sherry. Especially, love the doggy smiles.
ReplyDeleteWe are what we choose to carry, care for, make part of us... We would be so beautiful, if more of us choose to hold on to what really matters.
ReplyDeleteSounds like a full and beautiful heart.

This reminds me of the song, "My Favorite Things" from The Sound of Music.....recalling those things that make our hearts happy, packing them in there to bring us joy :-)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful,Sherry.I love it.
ReplyDeleteThis poem has a lovely inspiration behind it: pausing to take a few moments to examine what is in your heart - what, in effect, you have put there. A brilliant and wise piece.
ReplyDeleteYou will need a giant case:)
ReplyDeleteHow full and how rich is your heart!
ReplyDeleteWonderful! My heart is filled by this glimpse into yours.
