Cave of Hang Son Doong, Vietnam
by guff.com
My heart is a cave,
long unexplored,
in which prickly stalagmites
and undiscovered pearls
await the hapless traveler
who dares to enter in.
Within me
lies an underground river,
busy, burbling and babbling,
at times settling into silent pools
of profound stillness.
The cave walls weep,
drop by drop,
into the basin:
plop
plop
plop.
Traveler
has been walking
this inner cave
for a hundred years.
She carries
the map,
the journey
and the destination
inside her
cavern walls.

ReplyDeletePerfect, Sherry...I LOVE where you took this!! The metaphor works so effectively and I love the mention of the map and the journey...how they reside within...so good. Thank you so much for joining the challenge,Sherry...I enjoyed your offering greatly!
ReplyDeleteHow beautiful! I can't tell at what point the cave heart becomes the poet's and not its namesake's but I love the river that runs through it, the tearful walls and the journey inside with map and destination. Powerful.
ReplyDeleteThis is an amazing comparison, Sherry. How like you to look deep within your own inner spaces.
