How is it
we can take the batter
of this lumpy, mixed-up life,
all the wrong ingredients,
too much beating,
rancid flour,
and still wind up with
a pretty good cake?

When I write,
I write the way
I want my life to be.
When I eat,I eat the words
I cannot say.
I cannot say.

Hmmmmm..........the first regurgitates some lines from an earlier poem. The second popped out and made me go: "whoa!"
The first is so incredibly true. The second, utterly profound. We have similar actions/reactions my friend!
ReplyDeleteHa we made a birthday cake that looked a bit like that one it tasted great!
ReplyDeleteI eat my words all the time
Cheers to being profound and a bit silly
These things are just a mystery.
ReplyDeleteLoved reading this. Reminds me of a few life experiences...and cakes!
ReplyDeleteha. eating the words we can not say...nice...i should probably eat a few more...and if you can make chicken salad out of chicken poop, its not a bad skill to have
ReplyDeleteExcellent, my friend, and I'd even go so far as agreeing with "profound"!
ReplyDeleteLuv, K
Sherry, I hope someday you will not have to EAT words you cannot say. I hope there will be no words you cannot say.
ReplyDeleteSherry, you bless us with your words. I too hope there will be no words you cannot say.
ReplyDeleteAmazing! :D
ReplyDeleteSimply amazing!
Wow! Sherry and well yes we do dish a recipe for living, Don't we?? :)
ReplyDeletei love the analogy of life as a cake that somehow comes together. truth indeed
ReplyDeleteVery clever and such a great way to make this work. I am impressed would never thought of this. Excellent
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful philosophy..a cake is a cake however it comes together!
ReplyDeleteShort and sweet; true and mysterious. Thanks for this.
ReplyDeleteso true... now I want cake... :)
ReplyDeleteOh, yes I know that dance~ Well done Sherry!
ReplyDeleteSherry ... excellent, poetic philosophy.
ReplyDeleteI like this Sherry. So true, you do write about an ideal life, the one we, or most of us at least, dream of.
ReplyDeleteSherry, "I eat the words I cannot say..." What a powerful line, babe. Also, baking vs. baking so it looks and tastes like it's supposed to? That whole concept is lost on me. That's why I write in cafes, LOL. Loved this. Amy
ReplyDeletethis is so powerful and true...absolutely love the last stanza. thanks for sharing!

These are both very clever and yet sweet too--it is great when we can make the cake work out, and when we can (lovingly) eat our words not so bad either--Thanks, Sherry. k.
ReplyDeleteOw... this is so true!! Amazing take, Sherry!! That's how we cook our lives. The concluding lines are just fabulous...Thanks !
ReplyDeleteSherry, i love this, all of it... & it is rather amazing, isn't it, that in spite of everything we "still wind up with
ReplyDeletea pretty good cake"?
