Moon Dog 1973
Look up, young traveler,
at the starry heavens -
you with the stars and planets in your eyes,
and the whole sky dreaming in your face.
Let your eyes dance joyously
among the stars,
hung there for you by Sky Woman,
who spins her golden moon
and whirls her starry cape
for your delight.
Keep your gaze ever upward,
for we are all star travelers here,
arriving bewitched,
bemused with mystery,
beloved of the universe.
Sometimes, as earth travelers,
we forget, yet find ourselves
yearning ever homeward
toward the nighttime skies.
There are flight maps there,
among the ley lines,
to be decoded by all
stardust voyagers
who - eyes transfixed by
earth's limited horizons -
have yet to discover
we have the gift of
transcendental sight.
for Sumana's prompt at Midweek Motif: Looking at Stars. This poem was inspired by the theme of one of my older poems.
"the gift of Transcendental sight"! Oh may we discover it, all of us. Love this: " Keep your gaze ever upward,
ReplyDeletefor we are all star travelers here.
arriving bewitched,
bemused with mystery,
beloved of the stars."
Thank you for the wisdom in this gentle yet weighty poem!
This is beautiful. We too often live in only the trappings of earth. Heaven and stars beckon us to look up.
ReplyDeleteSometimes we DO forget, so we're very lucky to have our celestial reminders.
ReplyDeleteVery much the stardreamer! "The whole sky dreaming in your face." And the light shines in your eyes.
ReplyDeleteHope upon hope and inspiration beyond inspiration-I’m encouraged to keep looking skyward.
ReplyDeleteThis is a lovely poem/meditation. I love the reminder that I'm a universal traveler. Because of it I WILL look up at the stars tonight. Lovely writing!
ReplyDelete"you with the stars and planets in your eyes,
ReplyDeleteand the whole sky dreaming in your face." Aah...When will we all be like this? Beyond beautiful, Sherry.
"stardust voyagers....
ReplyDeletehave yet to discover
we have the gift of
transcendental sight"-- Jeez !!! How incredibly beautiful is this! Lovely writing, Sherry!
Sadly so many of ous are still down to Earth iin our view of the universe. Instead we think it is for us to use and abuse at pleasure rather than regard ourselves as just one my pebble on the sea shore. Beautifully written Sherry.
ReplyDeleteYou make the sky and the stars seem so magical..i would like to be a star traveller too!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful poem! And so full of joy and hope.
ReplyDeleteThis has both serenity and wisdom and vibes the vast brilliant silent Om of starlight. Amen.
ReplyDeleteNothing beats the allure--the sheer magic--of the nighttime sky. I travel there often...in my dreams.
