All you have learned
is a book that nobody reads
because they are busy
writing their own.
But in the moonlight,
at the edge of the pond,
still and silent,
the faintest of melodies
may stir in your heart,
that old familiar song,
of mis-step and transformation,
that has accompanied you so far,
a song of burning,
of being honed.
Like a butterfly encased in stone,
wounded, yet liberated
by the mallet's touch,
you arise at last
like a fluttering dream
on the edge of awakening,
and begin to dance
to the song that has no words.
Found this poem from 2015, and dusted it off for the Tuesday Platform at Real Toads.
WOWZA!
ReplyDeleteI love the fairy tale feel of this.
ReplyDeleteI was there....at the edge of the pond.
ReplyDeleteA song without words and book that nobody reads... yet at a pond you know it by heart (which is exactly how nature should be)
ReplyDeleteThat's incredible.. to be dancing to a song with no words and feeling the freedom...
ReplyDeleteSo beautiful...I remember as a child I would twirl and dance to the sounds of nature, of earth playing in the wind around me. I didn't need words.
ReplyDeleteThis is so gorgeous, Sherry. Nobody reads it because they are busy writing their own. That is the way of it.
ReplyDeleteThat second stanza is pure gold, Sherry!❤️ "Like a butterfly encased in stone, wounded, yet liberated by the mallet's touch".. sigh.. yes!
ReplyDeleteSuch wise words contained in beautiful images and language, Sherry. Thanks for sharing this poem with us again.
ReplyDeleteNature is a great composer of miracles, isn't she? And when we get really lucky, we learn to become part of it.
ReplyDeleteThe song of heart, of nature , of emotions indeed has no words and can only be felt.
ReplyDeletebutterfly and stone - vivid visuals and always the lovely dance to your words Sherry
ReplyDeleteLove this line and so true!
ReplyDeleteAll you have learned
is a book that nobody reads
because they are busy
writing their own.
