The Farm
Winter blues out my window,
fresh morning breaking,
doves at the feeder,
horses in the lean-to.
The colour blue wraps my winter world,
weaves through my winter heart,
peeks through my winter sky.
Blue.
The colour of goodbye.

ReplyDeleteBlueness makes it seem sad, but it is also beautiful!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lines. Loved it :)
ReplyDeleteSo very wistful and poignant. Blue is indeed the color of goodbye.
ReplyDeleteBlue indeed does have a certain sadness to it....but hopefully, in time, the blue will brighten into white! I think you are on your way.
ReplyDeleteyou speak peacefully of blue for it surrounds us all. i breathe blue, in morning noon and night. lovely and soft for i know of what you speak.

Beautiful though the picture is it does have that cold loneliness so fitting for your sad poem of loss.
ReplyDeleteThis is nostalgic and tender...beautifully written, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful blue sadness and longing,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
Sad and beautiful.
ReplyDeleteVery beautiful. I like the photo and how your words make it come to life. I hope none of us turn blue, not even in winter. Let's melt blue into the color of joy. Still, I sure like this poem, even its sadness.
ReplyDeleteI love that last line... it adds a sudden note of sadness to the poem.
ReplyDeleteI was surprised at the end line. I thought the persona was lingering in contemplation and was wrapped up in her just being there
ReplyDeleteThanks for dropping by to read mine.
Much love...
I have always loved the blue color because I lived on an island surrounded by the ocean blue. Now I live in a place that gets to see the Winter blues. The blues...hehe. thanks for the comment on my poem Sherry.

ReplyDeleteOh my Dear One, my sweet SHERRY BlUE SKY, you're the stuff stars are made of. Besos.
ReplyDeleteThe colour blue is related to something cold, something sad and deep. The subtle sense of poignancy is beautifully portrayed in blue... wonderful, Sherry...
ReplyDeleteColor of good-bye to the cold months towards the colorful sparkle of spring. Everyone looking forward to the ensuing year.

Saying goodbye to the blue of winter is perhaps a good thing to do...a concise and positive poem...it speaks of change, acceptance and renewal...
ReplyDeleteI see winter as more gray and white than blue but really enjoyed the wistful tone of your poem and its metaphorical quality.
ReplyDeleteLike winter blues...it makes any sudden arrivals so surprising.....and in same time we feel the gratitude for our winters...
ReplyDeleteAh! That was beautiful. The last line left me a little sad.

ReplyDeletesorry I am so late in commenting on last weeks posts :(
Well, blue is my favourite colour, Sherry, so you had me right from the title. Winter blues are cold, lonely and yes they do seem to signify partings. But where there is a parting there is always the hope of a reunion under a brilliant blue Summer sky :-)
