Doggy Hearts

It is amazing
how dogs can go through
neglect, abuse, abandonment and pain,
yet still have the ability
to open their hearts
to trust and love
again.

This is my daughter's dog, Cali, rescued from a kill shelter in California (hence the name, Cali.) This is Cali's "Gotcha!" day. She joined our family three years ago.

My daughter Stephanie has rescued many dogs from terrible situations, and it has been wonderful watching their eyes change from wary to the deep, glowing security of knowing they are safe and loved. Amazing how they, more easily than humans, are able to forgive the past and immerse themselves in a happier present.

for Sumana's Midweek Motif: Forgiveness.

  1. May nature forgive us as easily as her dogs do! I know the eyes of which you speak.

  2. Sherry,

So many dogs and pets have come to be rehomed, because of some terrible happenings in their lives.
I know of one beautiful dog, who now refuses to leave his new owner's side at all, for such was the abuse suffered beforehand, with a previous owner.
I can see great love and loyalty in that dog's whole behaviour...I'm certain forgiveness is present, but bad memories linger long...

  3. Some dogs are so forgiving and loving. I think they have forgotten their sorrows and pain, living onky in the present. I think it is wonderful that your daughter rescuses these dogs and gives them new lives. Bless her.

  4. Cruelty to dogs and careless abuse of the planet, how on earth did we manage to get so much control of it all as we are so unfit to be here?

  5. Awe. Yes. My two puppies (11 months now!) have never ever known a harsh, hateful day. Their capacity for love always amazes me.

  6. Mother nature has such forbearance and compassion! How easily she and her children forgive the human wrong doers.
    Cali's joy is so radiant!

  7. Animals are so forgiving. It's so sad that there are humans that take advantage of that. Thank goodness for animal rescuers.

  10. Absolutely! We don't deserve dogs, do we...as a species!??

  11. I was just rubbing our doggy's tummy and thinking about how happy she is now that she has a home.
It is good to see forgiveness in their soft eyes.
Sherry - I hope you are doing well. I think of you often and am grateful for your perseverance and encouragement.
Still hoping to do an interview with y'all one of these days. We are moving forward with 2 subjects (primary curriculum) now published. It's rewarding work.
    Much love

  14. Dogs remember, vividly. But they must not keep score. Just listen to them growl when they are exposed again with their former abuser. Their love is often used to help "unconditional love "
