SUNFLOWER II

While sunflowers
turn their faces to the sun
on sunny days,
they turn their faces
to each other, for support
when skies are grey.

Perhaps that's why we gather
in the streets,
when times are stark,
to feel our connection
against powerful forces
that feel so wrong and dark.

My spirit is heavy,
so I go forth
into the sun,
turn my face,
this golden day,
to each and everyone.

Our life and each other
is all we have,
when all is
said and done,
like sunflowers
turning hopefully
and forever
toward the sun.

  1. I love this Sherry, the thought of turning faces towards each other is nurturing and supportive. Heavy is the heart but, the spirit has wings, thus there is hope.

  6. I love this ... if we lived in a world full of sunflowers and perpetual sun, riots might stop.

  9. A compelling, haunting and nuanced metaphor, Sherry. We work with what we've got and do that which worked for us, in the past. As you say, hat is all we have.
