Toad Songs

Have you heard the Toads
in the Garden?
They are all sweetly singing.

In the garden, Toads,
singing sweetly -
how we will miss them.

We will miss the Garden Toads;
their songs gladdened our hearts.

Our gladdened hearts will remember
our Pond years with gratitude.

We Toads sing our gratitude
to Kerry, our Head Toad.
Never has a Toad sung
more sweetly
than she.

From our lily pads, we sing
Toad praises forever.
Thank you and thank you
for all the poems in this Garden.

Never has a froggy Pond
sounded so sweet.
The singing grows fainter;
eventide draws near.

Thank you and thank you
for every Toad song.

for Kim's prompt at Real Toads: to write a poem in the repeatitive style of Wendy Cope's "The Uncertainty of the Poet". A thank you to Kerry and all the Toads in the Imaginary Garden, for almost-ten years of writing prompts that grew our poems and stretched our hearts and souls.

  1. Perfect! Imma miss the old Pond too. *sniffle*

  2. Oh my aching heart this is lovely, Sherry ❤️ You have made me so emotional with this one..

  3. So lovely, and sad. I who just found the pond still feel sad, and like I missed an opportunity. Glad I found it anyhow, even if I barely had time to test the waters.

  4. Bless you Sherry and your sweet words. Except for a few croakers, the pond was a sweet place. A sweet place indeed. I will miss it dreadfully.

  5. Aww, I love this! It makes me also sad.

  6. What a beautiful tribute. So many writers will agree with your comments Sherry.

  7. Beautifully said ... and I think we all feel it. The garden has been a special place.

  8. Awww.. Sherry! This brought a tear to my eye. Your song has been the sweetest of all in the many ponds of internet poetry. I love you greatly and thank you for all the years of unqualified support.

  9. A terrific tribute, Sherry! It made me sad but glad to have been part of the Imaginary Garden and proud to be a Toad. However, we haven’t stopped singing yet!

  10. Yes we will miss the pond, good comradomy here for sure. I helped put One Single Impression to rest also, we were a neat group, we learned forms and ways, and "they", the real poets accepted writers like me with open arms. Like you accept me.
I will enlarge my Facebook friend list more when we close.
BTW, starting tomorrow I will start a month plus sabatical. Maybe a smidgen of media visits now and then.

  11. This is so wonderful and so great to have been part of this journey.

  12. We shall certainly miss the Imaginary Garden. I am so glad Kerry has chosen to leave the blog as an archive. It won't be the same, of course, but it's wonderful to know we'll always have echoes of The Toads' songs.

  13. This brought a lump to the throat and a tear to the eye. Lovely use of repetition in this living elegy.

  14. A lovely tribute to our fellow Toads!

  15. Sad to think of the Pond being drained!

  16. I know the Toads meant a lot to you, Sherry!

Thank you so much for visiting. I appreciate it and will return your visit soon.
