The Sea, At Dawn

Meet me
at the place
where riversong meets
the ululating susurration
of the sea,
waves in endless cycle,
withdrawing,
coming back
to me.
I left a fragment of my heart
upon its shore,
will not be whole
until I can return
once more.

Let's raise our faces to
the morning mist at dawn,
feel its gentle kiss
our face upon,
watch heron picky-toe along
the fragrant shore.
Meet me where my soul,
to thrive,
needs nothing more.

for Michael's prompt for Get Listed at Real Toads. I chose the words, fragment, withdrawing and sea.

  1. Beautiful.

I broke my own rule, not to read before I wrote mine. I knew visiting would not disappoint.

  2. When you write like this, I really miss the shore. I love how you love the sea. Loved this poem, the rhythm the rhyme and the words add up to your yearning. I sigh.

  10. This is glorious Sherry.. There is such longing for the sea in your words, I also feel the longing for a person lost that makes your loss a double loss... the description of the heron is precious.

  16. I feel your yearning here, Sherry. It makes me empathize for the writer (you, but the same for an unknown writer). It tugs.
Here I love the watching of the herons part. We have them here but it is the soaring hawks that I watch from our open back porch that I WILL (soon) be missing.
