My Mom and Dad
He hung the moon for her
and she lit up his night sky.
He jumped over a piano,
and down from the stage,
to meet her
when he saw her walk in.
So much love,
yet their life was hard.
She stayed with him
through it all.
When he died,
she held his fedora to her chest
and walked up and down
along the creek,
for hours,
crying.
The sky had gone dark.
So much love,
so much regret -
so much to grieve.
My dad played alto sax and clarinet in bands all his life. My mom walked into one of the dances, seventeen, a beauty, long blonde hair falling down her back, and he did jump over the piano and down from the bandshell to meet her when he saw her walk in, a fact my mom smiled over all her life.

I love this Sherry!
ReplyDeleteWhat a tender love story. I like the photo. It is testimony to your father's strong attraction. Your Mom was beautiful. You have good genes Sherry. Beauty is within you.
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful story and fabulous photograph. I met my husband in a similar bolt-of-lightning out-of-the-clear-blue-sky kind of way also … at a dance alone (long story) that I didn't expect to be at. I had decided to leave and as I turned to go … there he was. Had I not been at that place (that I didn’t particularly want to be at) … at that moment in time … our paths never would have crossed.
ReplyDeleteNeedless to say, I’ve always been sentimental about those sparks of love that ignite in a heartbeat. I enjoyed this one, Sherry!

I love the symbolism here --- as if he put her in the sky himself, perhaps picking her up and setting her on that piano he jumped over, so that she could sing for him; maybe he gave her a voice. No wonder she crumbled when she lost him.
What a wonderful true love story. He hung the moon for her and she lit up his night sky...so beautiful and tender.

So much love to be shared yet so little time to be together. How wonderful true love is. Only they could feel it for themselves! Thanks for sharing Sherry!
