Open the window, so the spirits of the dying
can fly out and away, into the starry night.
May the song of the spheres serenade their passage,
moonglow illuminate the opening in the veil
between their new world and ours.
Watch the early morning light
slowly outline the rosy mountains,
then faintly tinge the sky
with the pink of promise:
a new day begins, for we, the living.
This moment, as every moment,
all of the waters of the world
are traveling in riversong to the sea,
bearing life along its precipitous passage,
down the mountain slopes,
plunging over falls,
pooling in quiet eddies,
till finally it reaches the ocean's roar
and finds itself home again,
on tomorrow's shore.
There be spirits here. Come walk
in the ancient forest with me.
Hear Brother Wind whispering the shaman's song
softly through the branches of Grandfather Cedar.
If you listen closely, you will hear
him speak.
He knows those who are lost,
those who have journeyed on,
those who will return again.
He will bring the touch
of the one you have loved so well
on the evening breeze.
When the puff of wind touches your cheek,
know it was sent to you with love
from the spirit world,
to gently dry your tears.

The beauty of the helpful spirits that can guide one towards correction. It is the feelings of being blessed that makes life a joy! Great lines Sherry!

Beautiful... all that water rushing home to the ocean has stopped .. to listen to your poem.

Home again....so beautiful! In thoughts and words...sounds like 'peace.'
ReplyDeleteSherry, this is an incredible poem! I'm a sucker for poems with a mystery and shroud around them. A poem that brings me to silent places, and places where time lives, and yet seems to have stopped. Thanks for a great read!
ReplyDeleteYou have a gift for speaking of the natural world in ways that bring out its wonder: "traveling in riversong", for example....what lyricism! Beautiful, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteThis has the makings of a shamanic journey. I am always waiting to hear the songs of nature. I would like to paddle my canoe in the riversong..
ReplyDeleteAh, how this spoke to me - after coming in from a walk among my trees. Grandfather Cedar - how true. The respecting of the natural and spiritual worlds, the messages of peace and comfort - so touched my heart.
ReplyDeleteWow! The last lines were like a soothing balm to my weary heart.
ReplyDeleteLovely poem Sherry, everything in unison as meant to be.
ReplyDeleteNature has so many gifts to give us, and healing is at the top of that list,
