Mother Sky / Small Bird

Expansive Mother Sky,
in all your greys and blues,
your hazy autumn hues,
you hold my heart
the way the rugged maple
holds the twiggy nest
in which sits a wee brown bird,
serene, and softly singing.

***

Small bird,
with your sweetness
you are
the bodhisattva
of my morning.
Songstress,
you awaken me
to the plight of all beings.

***

You,
who own only feathers,
are far happier
than we.
Teach us your song.

***

Sharing an oldie from 2015 with earthweal's open link. Looking forward to Lindi's challenge on Monday!

  1. This was uplifting to read this evening. The small birds do appear to be happy and they can indeed teach us the song of joy.

  5. To the bird I sing: teach us the joy in your poverty, let it make music of us.

  6. All a bird owns is its nest, and some birds are downright extravagant with those.

Sherry, I still have an open call for a long "literary" review of a new book of poems. Since yours aren't on amazon.us, by any chance could you send a review copy of the newest one? Word, Google Docs, Open Office, Libre, PDF, and Mobi work well with this computer. People often send less than final draft copies to online reviewers, I've learned.
