Mood in indigo;
memories of long ago:
blue velvet twilight,
crooner tunes
on a spinning turntable,
sweet pea and peony
on the evening air -
lake scent and whisperings
lake scent and whisperings
engraved on my heart.
Mare and foal in the pasture,
my sister's dream,
my sister's dream,
foal with perky ears
too soon buried
too soon buried
under tall pines.
Heartbreak is
always
coloured blue.
Blue horses gallop
through all of our dreams,
all the sweet furry creatures
that blessed our lives.
that blessed our lives.
Mood in indigo,
remembering
long-gone orchard days
so full of dreams,
so full of dreams,
all that love
still echoing
still echoing
in my heart.
You made blue the most beautiful color in the Universe. Mood indigo indeed.
ReplyDeleteBlue is generally my favorite color, you told it well. I don't remember the words to "Mood Indigo;" were there any? Such a pretty poem, I wish the little foal didn't have to die.
ReplyDelete..
Such an underlying sadness in this beautiful poem, Sherry. It is good to have love echoing in the heart, though.
ReplyDeleteHeartbreak is always colored blue. How true that is. A gorgeous and moving remembrance poem Sherry. So glad you were able to join us this week.
ReplyDeleteEven with the sorrows, you describe a wondrous heaven right here on earth.
ReplyDeleteHeartbreak is always coloured blue...a lovely nostalgic visit. Good luck with the move. Hope it's not too far from the sea.
ReplyDeleteBlues echoes our sadness but also covers us in clear skies. What a dilemma
ReplyDeleteHappy Sunday Sherry
Much💗love
This is lovely--it pulls the emotion deep into the blue but sparks it with the gold of soft fur and the scent of sweet peas.
ReplyDeleteMood is indigo, memories do make us feel blue.
ReplyDeleteThis is so poignant, Sherry. Just lovely.
ReplyDeleteBlue for missing long-gone horses: nice thought. (Better than my reaction to a blue print stuffed duck someone gave me...I think a stomach flu contributed to that reaction.) Nice ekphrastic poem here.
ReplyDeleteIndigo blue is the color for those feelings for sure!
ReplyDeleteSuch a lovely poem Sherry. Made me wonder why we associate blue with sadness. Perhaps because its beauty gives comfort.
ReplyDeleteYour poem causes a pinch of pain just under the ribs - so palpable. Love how you pull it together with the song. (My favorite version of it - Nina Simone.)
ReplyDeleteWhat beautiful images. Your poem is very dreamlike & nostalgic!
