On the path of transformation
there is no turning back :
autumn turns to winter,
there is no turning back :
autumn turns to winter,
middle-aged to old,
every step and every moment
moving us forward.
We carry nostalgia
for the times that are no more,
resistance to the speed
rushing us through
our shortening days.
The secret is to let go
like the last leaf
on the fat old oak
and drift dreamily through
the present moment,
Knowing that above all,
around all,
beyond all,
all is as it is meant to be.
We wander through our days
wrapped all in beauty.
The moon will be waxing
half-full tonight.
Listen for Wild Woman's howl.
One from 2011 today, kids. Posting it for Poets United's Poetry Pantry tomorrow morning Check it out for a lot of good reading. Am busy with my granddaughter's wedding, which is going to be magical and wonderful. Will take lots of photos to share with you.
Your picture tells us you don't waste much time drifting--OOOOOOOOOOOOWHOOO!
ReplyDeleteYes, Sherry. Life is about moving forward and it's no stopping it. I wonder what the future will be but I'm excited to see what's in store for me.
ReplyDeleteI really like the image of the last leaf on the oak :)
Yes, all is as it is meant to be. Sometimes we have to keep repeating that to ourselves over and over. But really, there is so much beauty everywhere.
ReplyDeleteWhen we stop trying to control life, and just let it be - it will be. Looking for the beauty in (the) every day.
ReplyDeleteHowl on wild woman.
Even if we fill all our hours we will still would not do all we would wish. What beautiful treasures you continue to reveal for us.
ReplyDeleteall is as it is meant to be.
ReplyDeleteWe wander through our days
wrapped all in beauty.
Such positive inclinations will bring lots of success. Best wishes for your preparations on the wedding Mary!

OWooooOOOOO! It is much more pleasant riding the currents than trying to stop transforming. I want to experience it all. One of the beautiful things about aging is the writing, especiallythis poem!
ReplyDeletesuch a heartfelt poem of acceptance...we need to learn in our troubled hours that "all is as it is meant to be"....
ReplyDeleteYet another which I absolutely resonate with, love and admire. Though we are at a place of shortening days, it means we have lived long, rich lives. :-)
ReplyDeleteThe guys howl a little too...
ReplyDeleteI loved the second stanza.. there are times when we feel a rush of nostalgia and wish for time to stand still so as to enjoy all the moments passing us by.. beautifully captured!
ReplyDeleteLots of love,
Sanaa
Letting go is perhaps the hardest but most vital part of transformation - that arm in the air is like shifting that 'thing' up up and away...also love the fat old oak...sounds like the kind of tree which would hug you! xo
ReplyDeleteI so love this.. So much wisdom - we can only walk forward. There is only one way really.
ReplyDeleteGo with the flow. Especially if the flow is Earl Grey Tea.
ReplyDeleteVery touchng verse.
ReplyDeletebeautiful.. let it be, just as it is it's the way it's suppose to be.
ReplyDeleteI love this picture of you on the beach, pointing the way ahead! The words are so very inspiring too.
ReplyDeleteI will Sherry ~ letting go and being immersed in the present is a good advice ~ Enjoy the family wedding ~

Your depiction of the secret is STELLAR :-) Enjoy your granddaughter's wedding!!
ReplyDeleteThis poem is so mystical and beutiful it's worth repeating many times. I know how hectic a wedding can be. But it's always lots of fun. I hope you have a great time and send my best wishes to the special couple.
ReplyDeleteThis is a FAV for sure! Wonderful!

Such a lucky granddaughter...and a wise grandmother....your words resonating so strongly with me Sherry as I drift in and out of the moments of my day savoring the transition of my life...each day changes occurring.
ReplyDeleteLovely. You have a gift, Sherry, for sharing sage, beautifully rendered introspections, infused with your inimitable talent for the turn-of-a-phase: "The secret is to let go like the last leaf on the fat old oak and drift dreamily ... " And - just like that - you've turned up the corners of my mouth, once again. WONDERFUL!
ReplyDeleteAh to let go and drift ... Just glanced up at Wendy's comment which went precisely where I was going... I am listening - always listening for that saged sacred howl <3
ReplyDeletetransformation requires us to let go so we can grow..enjoying the moments of life can bring great joy.
ReplyDeleteI am sure the wedding will be magical and filled with love.
Let your inner spirit howl..smiling..
Inspiring... to live in the present and let the transformation happen.
ReplyDeleteOh, your words gave me goose-bumps!! I loved this so much! I believe in these words, Sherry :) I loved the lines:
ReplyDelete'The secret is to let go
like the last leaf
on the fat old oak
and drift dreamily through
the present moment'
There's just something about that old oak that makes me smile :)
No do-overs...sometimes, that can be hard to drift dreamily through.
ReplyDeleteFirst of all many congratulations on your granddaughter's wedding! :) I wish her the best in life.... I am at a point in my life where I have to let to go of things that are so dear to me and move forward. Your write resonates so well with me, it gives me hopes.. there will be something good ahead. Thank you for sharing Sherry.
ReplyDeleteA beautiful piece on transitions.
ReplyDeleteI loved this whole piece, but the last line was a true gem!

ReplyDeleteIs that you I heard howling last night? ;)
ReplyDeleteNo Idea (Longer Poem)
Even if it was possible to turn back - it would be a different experience 'cause we can't enter the same water twice. ~ love the poem, sounds as written today, to happy transition!!
