NO TURNING BACK

On the path of transformation
there is no turning back :
autumn turns to winter,
middle-aged to old,
every step and every moment
moving us forward.

We carry nostalgia
for the times that are no more,
resistance to the speed
rushing us through
our shortening days.

The secret is to let go
like the last leaf
on the fat old oak
and drift dreamily through
the present moment,

Knowing that above all,
around all,
beyond all,
all is as it is meant to be.
We wander through our days
wrapped all in beauty.

The moon will be waxing
half-full tonight.
Listen for Wild Woman's howl.

One from 2011 today, kids. Posting it for Poets United's Poetry Pantry tomorrow morning Check it out for a lot of good reading. Am busy with my granddaughter's wedding, which is going to be magical and wonderful. Will take lots of photos to share with you.

  2. Yes, Sherry. Life is about moving forward and it's no stopping it. I wonder what the future will be but I'm excited to see what's in store for me.

I really like the image of the last leaf on the oak :)

  3. Yes, all is as it is meant to be. Sometimes we have to keep repeating that to ourselves over and over. But really, there is so much beauty everywhere.

  4. When we stop trying to control life, and just let it be - it will be. Looking for the beauty in (the) every day.

    Howl on wild woman.

  11. Letting go is perhaps the hardest but most vital part of transformation - that arm in the air is like shifting that 'thing' up up and away...also love the fat old oak...sounds like the kind of tree which would hug you! xo

  22. Lovely. You have a gift, Sherry, for sharing sage, beautifully rendered introspections, infused with your inimitable talent for the turn-of-a-phase: "The secret is to let go like the last leaf on the fat old oak and drift dreamily ... " And - just like that - you've turned up the corners of my mouth, once again. WONDERFUL!

'The secret is to let go
