THE LANGUAGE OF FLOWERS

greengardens.com

Speak to me
in the language of flowers:
sensitive to the nuances
of soil, moisture,
climatic fluctuation
and response.

Look beneath my surface,
for what is there,
waiting to be discovered.
Part the fulsome greenery,
gently,
and find the bud
in the place
I keep most hidden.

The blooms of our two lives
are heavy-laden,
heads tipped and toppling,
nodding in the breeze.
From underneath
their most precarious weight,
our hands emerge,
as tentative
as leaves.

Speak to me
in the language of flowers,
if you care to understand,
and perhaps,
somehow,
my heart
will find an answer

This was written in 2013 for a prompt by Kerry at Real Toads. Re-posted today for the Toads' Tuesday Platform.

  3. Definitely sparks in Stanza 2, but all woven of one cloth. The sense/sensuality of being and spirit is alive in the language of flowers and humans. Thank you for this poem!

  5. LOL. I can see there is a double entendre there - but trust me, I'm too old and tired....I meant the bud of my inner being.......but for younger poets, it could certainly work the other way too.

  6. Leave it to you to write a randy flower poem and not even know it LOL
I do love this, Sherry- particularly the lines 'The blooms of our two lives are heavy-laden, heads tipped and toppling, nodding in the breeze.'

  11. I love your language of flowers. Oh that we could learn it and remove everything that is cruel from what we speak.

  12. Sherry, I love it all, love best the secret of the hidden bud.
Sensuous even when you don't intend to be writing that way.

  13. Sensual and full of earthiness. Love it! I particularly enjoy that that the speaker gives direction. I hope someone follows them; when that happens, happiness comes. ♥

  14. The lovelife in the language of the flowers.. As long as we avoid to speak with thistle tongues.
