Blue Sky Woman

Day 27 of the Soul Card Journey
with Elizabeth Crawford of Soul's Music
Soul Cards by Deborah Koff-Chapin
at http://www.touchdrawing.com/

She is
Blue Sky Woman,
who has walked around
her whole life,
head back,
gazing at the sky.

Sky Traveler,
so many miles
she has wandered
under the beauty
of this
celestial blanket.

Star Dreamer,
she asks
her questions
of the stars,
and, when they're
silent,
she directs her
attention
to the moon.

A white dove of Peace
flies alongside
as she journeys,
for she wants
no disharmony
anywhere
near her person.

Her step lilts,
and she sings
as she travels,
for a hopeful heart
rides along
in her breast pocket.

That blue sky
has carried her
a long ways,
first thing she sees
in the morning,
last thing she sees
at night:
so much
beauty, mystery,
and wonder
to be found
in  decoding
the transubstantiation
of the clouds.

Sky Travelers

We are so driven,
rushing,
with our eyes closed,
brains on auto-pilot,
blindly trying
to Get More
when there will
never be
Enough -
until we
awaken,
bemused and drifting,
Sky Travelers,
gently coasting upon
the currents
of each day
so filled with gifts -
such precious moments
of complete perfection,
each one a jewel
the universe
sends
our way.

These eyes.......

[written in reponse to Poets United's Thursday Think Tank Prompt : The Eyes]

My eyes
are on my mind today.
Ever since the doctor said
the gel in my eyeballs
is collapsing in on itself,
I have noticed my vision
getting blurry,
deteriorating.

I have been reading
faster and faster,
trying to get all the books read
that I want to read,
typing faster and faster,
trying to get all the poems
and stories in one place
to say what I did
when I was here.

He'll see me at 2:30
next Tuesday
and $120 later
we'll know
what's up.

These eyes
have seen a lot.
They have gotten me
through
hard times
by always looking up,
watching the sky,
reminding me
there is a bigger picture
than the one in front of me.

These eyes
have looked on
mountains and meadows
and waves rushing swiftly
in to shore.
They have marveled at
sunrises and sunsets
and storm clouds
and forests
and midnight moons.

They have smiled at dogs
and babies
and old people,
and have feasted
on the whole rich panorama
of life.

These eyes.....
may I keep seeing
through
these eyes...........

STAR VOYAGER

[Shaman's Journey - from deviantart.com]
[This poem was given to me in a dream. I woke from sleep, seeing the Shaman's face right before my eyes, swiftly writing it down, as the dream and his face slipped away, faster than I could write. Posted for Poetry Jam: Visions]

Time traveling,
winging through the cosmos,
my body
its own spacecraft-
nothing between
my Self
and all the stars,
bathing in their friendly light,
riding the vortex,
upward hurled,
traveling through Forever,
awesome
Sky-world.
Cosmic beings,
giant creatures
green and blue,
beckon me
to join them,
this journey
all the proof
(I always knew)
that we are One,
speaking a language
of the heart
that needs no words,
sharing a universe
where we all belong,
making music
in which we are all notes
of the same song.
Then, as I waken,
eyes open
and for sure
no longer dreaming,
I see
a painted mask,
First Nations warrior,
his face alive,
suspended there
before me.
He looks at me,
behind his painted mask,
Medicine man,
intensely kind and wise,
and, strangely unafraid,
I do not hide
but hold his shaman's glance
beguiling,
as he looks deeply,
deep into my eyes,
and smiling.

[When this waking dream happened to me, I had just collapsed with chronic fatigue but did not yet know what was wrong with me. I found the shaman's face so kind and reassuring, like he was telling me I would be all right. And I was.]

CLOUD DREAMING

Josh, a tree sprite

Little boy
upon the grass
looking at
the sky so vast
watching puffy cloud-shapes pass
while the days
drift
slowly past

Arms crossed behind my head, am I
humming my love song
to the sky
below me
grass so soft and dry,
above a yellow
butterfly

Time stretches out
without an end
time the little
boy's best friend
these days will never
come again
the way they do
when I am ten

LOVER OF THE SKY

2002

I am a lover of the blue sky,
perfect clouds
like a dream sail by;
of a green walk in the wild wood;
of trees dripping on me
where I stood;
of mist rising up
where the river bends;
of the small sweet song
of a striped-headed wren.
I am a lover of the burning flame
lit for world peace
in hearts the same.
I am a lover of the morning sun,
already radiant
the day begun.
I am a lover of the whale, leaping,
of the blue, blue hills
in the sunset sleeping.
I am a lover
of the eagle's cry,
who sweeps and soars
without a Why.
I am a lover
of life alone,
of the heart's peace
when it's at home.
I am a lover
of my old dog's smile,
of his warm brown eyes,
of his lack of guile.
I am a lover of the warm spring rain,
of the smell of earth stirring
to life again.
I am a lover of the ocean's roar,
of the sandy beach
stretching all before.
I am a lover of rock and log,
of driftwood shapes
looming through the fog.
I am a lover of clouds, of stars,
of the falling dark,
of soft guitars,
of the meadowlark,
of the summer's breeze,
of days of struggle,
days of ease,
of heartfelt love
gone away too soon,
of goodbyes under
a slice of moon.
I am a lover
of fresh-cut grass,
of children's laughter,
of dogs I pass,
of babies all
innocence and rapture,
of the bent and aged
who tremble after,
of the falling leaves,
of a job well done,
and I am a lover
of beasts that run,
of water that moves
and creates its own way,
of the journey made
and the price I pay.
I am a lover
of brand new books,
those journeys that
I never took.
I am a lover of music that sings,
songs of the heart,
the hope it brings,
and the flight of poems
for a brand new dawn
that knows this life
is Moving On.
Like the heron, stalk-still
at the water's edge,
makes a sudden leap -
I am the same.
Poised to dive
from a tilting ledge,
the horizon lit
with a golden flame,
I'm waiting
to hear
Someone
call my name.
