Jeff's latest poem for me

My son, Jeff, is such a blessing in my life. We have walked a long journey together, through his years of suffering, when words flew between us like birds, and we learned the meaning of acceptance, and unconditional love, and Being There. And through his treatment for lymphoma, when I hobbled to the city to sit with him in the oncology ward.

We have always been able to talk about anything. Including death. Conscious living, conscious dying. Being Present.

I remember his huge blue eyes, looking up at me when he was three, the eyes of an angel, an unclouded innocent. We share the gift of knowing what the gifts of living are: the beauty of the natural world, the possibility of transcendance in humankind. He has the Family Cackle. [When our family gets together, it sounds like a fox is in the henhouse:) ]

He continues to humble me, leaving me in awe of being such a gifted soul's mother. His latest poem seems to be his acknowledgment of my aging. It actually is a song, set to music. He creates incredible music, including classical pieces that sound like Bach and Mozart. I havent heard this set to music yet, but no doubt I will soon:)

I Fly Through a River of Dreams

by Jeffrey Siddhartha Crazy Horse Marr

I was a child but I have grown
Your quiet house is all I've known
The crooked peach-tree in the yard
The killing rain we took too hard

And now I must cry
And embrace you
And wave good-bye...

Chorus.

I Fly Through a River of Dreams
Where love is like a summer breeze
I Fly Through a River of Dreams
That carries me toward the Sea

I see you on the bright-green bank
You are the one that I must thank
I see your face and sky-blue dress
Come, let us touch our last caress

And now I must cry
And embrace you
And wave good-bye...

Repeat Chorus.

We'll meet again just you and I
Beneath a peach-tree in the yard
The two of us will never die
And rain becomes a little sigh

And now I must cry
And embrace you
And say good-bye...

Song of Hope

[Two poems from Jeff Siddhartha Crazy Horse Marr]

Today I sing the rainbow whispers
Up in the sky the tides are changing
We let go for something better
Leaving sadly to arrive with joy -
The path we love, yet fear to tread.
O Life!! Do not forsake me!!

Flowing springs surround me
I am at peace-
I am the sound you wanted to hear
Drawing you to me
By living for you
All through tranquil evenings.
*               *             *
Have you heard the music
Dancing in the clouds?
*               *              *
O Gods! I want the good things I see!
I'll do anything to get to where I want to Be!
Angels lift me-do not let me fall!
I'll give anything at all!
Sad hours through the decades pass like ghosts:
Pull me back friend and welcome me
To the house of hosts!!!
*               *              *
If you head east far enough
You'll arrive in the west
For though we're together
We're still a world apart.

THE FALLEN ANGEL

With a crown of darkness the Nameless One
Watches you through the windows of the night
What he commands like clockwork you obey
Touched by shadows you hide your heart away

Chorus:
The Fallen Angel says:
"There's no need to suffer!
See Me standing
Proudly in the flames?
Join Me. Join Me.
Dance with Me again!"

He made man a mockery of himself
The wolves in the basement are all set free
Souls are sold for riches rubies and gold
All are deceived but Michael and the saints

Chorus:
The Fallen Angel says:
"There's no need to suffer!
See Me standing
Proudly in the flames?
Join Me. Join Me.
Dance with Me again!"

My Beautiful Bird of Birds

Well, here is a treat. I was poking through my papers, looking for a particular piece of writing, when I came across this poem my son Jeff wrote a few years back. Thought I would post it for your enjoyment.

My Beautiful Bird of Birds
by Jeff Siddhartha Crazy-Horse Marr, who is much alone, but dearly loved.

My Beautiful Bird of Birds across the sky
In what distant arbor rests your golden wings?
In what far field rings your precious pipe-notes?
I think the wind touches coldly your black hair
And weary for pillow is your gentle head
But why do you tread alone through forest darks?
What is the sunset to you if all alone?
Do your eyes scan the far horizons in vain
For an echo to your solitary heart?
I too take my lonely footsteps in the world
In my home I burn my lantern in the night
Look out! I'm looking out for you. Come to me!
Are you not seeking most a warm homecoming?
Then find upon my breast a sanctuary.
