The End of a Dream

Someone nailed the coffin lid on my heart's desire,
leaving me standing in a place
where I have never been before ~
a place without a dream.

Which way, now, Raven?
Point your broken wing,
and I'll recalibrate my inner GPS.

Kim's Verse First prompt this week  is to go to a place where you have never been before and write a poem of seven lines. I pondered, for I have written poems in my mind even while walking through the forest,  racing like a lunatic back to the car to transcribe them before they slipped away. Where to go? Up in the hayloft? Swinging upside down like a bat? Another ride atop the Golden Dog? And then I knew.

This week, I close the chapter on my Book of Dreams and return to a reality that is so much less  that I am hard-pressed to absorb the finality, and turn my compass in another direction.

But I will. That's what Wild Women do.

  1. I rather wish it was a mystery to me what this poem is about because it is so beautiful and so perfect. Remember, too, that when a door shuts, another door opens.

  2. I'm sorry to hear that your book of dreams must be closed. It is says a lot about your wild woman endurance that you can do so without letting the disappointment overwhelm.

  5. Sherry, one book of dreams can close BUT the desire to dream cannot be extinguished.
Poetry a place where we can honestly write about "fiction"

  7. Sherry,

That is the power which has been gifted to The Wild Woman. The gift of never knowing the moment, but being prepared...You are always in a composing mode Sherry:)
    Best wishes,
    Eileen

  19. What am I meant to do now? What do you want me to do at this moment? What should I be doing? All variations of what Wild Women ask when they are in a place of difficulty or a place they wish to be but are apparently not meant to be. By the way I have really, really screwed up my name with Blogger so I now appear to be Crows Feet ?????? Hugs sweetie this too shall pass.

  24. I've been reading a lot about resilience lately -- grit, determination, the Wild Woman quality that will turn your face to another place where dreams will come true. You have it, Sherry.
