Wild Heaven
The Tla-o-qui-aht say
that in their culture,
living as they do with
the natural world,
there is no wild;
the only word they have
for wilderness
is Home.
Wild Woman likes everything wild:
wolves, straggly hair, wildflowers,
tall grasses, forests, winter waves.
Wild heaven.
This surprised me when it came to 44.

This is an absolutely stunning concept!
"the only word they have
ReplyDeletefor wilderness
is Home."
Such a simple, but powerful line.
Some people cannot understand that and it's a shame. I feel a sorrow for them.
Yes, they have lived in harmony with Mother Earth, where I live, for at least 17,000 years, likely more. They have protocols for how they live with and look after the land. Unlike the dominant culture, who feels humans are the only species that matters. I study with this young woman, and am learning so much about how to live with the natural world.
ReplyDeleteGood point about the wilderness being home.
ReplyDeleteThe wild is indeed called home to some. Nature is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeing wild Sherry, is being creative not being tame subdued and inactive!
