I spun my house from sea sand
and early morning mist,
wrapped it around me like a foggy cloak
to the joyous sussuration of the waves,
filled it with daybreak and evensong,
used beach glass for all the windows.
And there I lived, driftwood walls
open to the sky, a ceiling full
of stars and windsong,
of stars and windsong,
seabirds on the wing,
ever-changing clouds
and refracted light.
and refracted light.
Like the sand dollar, I wove my home
from the sand around me, used its grit
to polish the bones of my dwelling,
carried it with me when I left,
sea song swelling,
ebbing, flowing,
ceaselessly and forever,
in my heart.
Right down to the heartbeat the sea and sand sings you in this poem. A powerful conjuring and half mystical thought. Love.
ReplyDeleteEndless sighs here .......

ReplyDeleteA concoction of delicious thoughts wrapped in the silver paper of dreams.
and you reminded me of a similar 'dwelling' I had as a girl, woven of bundles of grass in a clearing in the woods. Thank you for this sunday morning treat.

Lovely words and so beautifully crafted to make this just create a vivid picture, Really nice,
ReplyDeleteA house of dreams - in sussuration from the waves.. There is a richness in the sand dollars that you have to be there to truly love. Love this poem - that have the rhythm of the waves built in.
ReplyDeleteWhat a loveliness is here!!
ReplyDeletesussaration rules this poem - it is a word of such keening vibrant "sense-ibility" that I am pulled into and under the tide of your longing... beautiful

That house is beautiful it sings a song of nature..
ReplyDeletea house filled with hopes and dreams. I really enjoyed this Sherry.
I've always been a lover of the hope offered by driftwood and sea glass. The smoothness of trash made art makes me think of dreams come true, and the colors of sea glass arches rainbows over those dreams.
ReplyDeleteLove the picture your words have built...
I love the rhythmic quality to this poem....and what a beautiful use of 'susurration' here!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful Sherry, your love for this place seeps from every word.
