He was Goofypup
when he was little,
Mr Dog, and venerable,
in his old age.
And all the years between
he kept me laughing,
companioned me
through the best
and the worst years of my life,
loved me well and truly,
and left a huge
hole in the world
when he left,
that beautiful
big black dog.
I understand, Sherry. Some relationships stay with a person forever and cannot be forgotten or replicated.
ReplyDeleteLump-in-throat reading this. They really do leave a huge hole in the world, when they go. The relationship one has with a beloved dog is often wordless and yet, so magical . . . a special connection..
ReplyDeleteWe'll never stop valuing the ones who we share this love with. Nicely done.
ReplyDeletedogs are such friends...loving us no matter what...its hard to ever fill the void they leave...because they are always there for us.
ReplyDeleteWhen you call him Goofypup, it makes me think of my Leroy. So funny and so loving. Daisy too, but Daisy is not goofy. She's more spiritual, if that's possible. How we love our dogs!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great picture and a wonderful tribute to go with it.
ReplyDeleteOh, Sherry, I know our Lindy is going to leave a huge hole when she leaves us, too. In face, I am already worried about my husband, because he simply adores her, and she adores him. I've loved and lost lots of dogs in my day, but he hasn't.
ReplyDeleteHope you are feeling alright.
Luv, K
Oops, "in fact" not "in face". Not my day. :)
ReplyDeleteThis is so perfect, Sherry.
ReplyDeleteI love the hat!!!! <3 I know the feeling...I lost my dog when I was 12. 2 decades it has been.
ReplyDeleteSuch an awesome tribute to a wonderful best friend.
These lines made me cry again for my long lost friend ..:-( such beautiful lines for a wonderful friend..
ReplyDeleteI read that the Pleiadians consider death just a 'change of cloths'.
ReplyDeleteA lovely tribute to a great dog, Sherry! Losing let's is no light matter.
ReplyDeleteI meant 'losing pets'. I wish autocorrect did not think it knows best.
ReplyDeleteHe was the sweetest. You have helped me to know him, with your words. I love him, too.
ReplyDeleteVery moving Sherry ~ That hole is hard to fill, even after many years ~
ReplyDeleteMan's best friend will always leave a void. A replacement may help a little though but not quite! Sad but a wonderful write Sherry!
ReplyDeleteHank
