Expansive Mother Sky,
in all your greys and blues,
your hazy autumn hues,
you hold my heart
the way the rugged maple
holds the twiggy nest
in which sits a wee brown bird,
serene, and softly singing.
***
Small bird,
with your sweetness
you are
the bodhisattva
of my morning.
Songstress,
you awaken me
to the plight of all beings.
***
You,
who own only feathers,
are far happier
than we.
Teach us your song.

One from 2015, my friends. Trying to focus on the positives at the moment which, for me, is always found in nature. For the Tuesday Platform at Real Toads.
This is my favorite poem of yours EVER. I feel the spirit and want to learn the song. Sharing.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely morning song!
ReplyDeleteOh, that last stanza.... that's what we need.
ReplyDeleteWe all need this positive moments. So thanks so much for sharing them.. For reminding us that even when times look gloomy, the Great Mother has a way of growing hope.
ReplyDeleteThis do remind me of the Caged Bird... we need to sing like this... it's the only way.

Fantastic, Sherry, and much appreciated right now. xxoxo to you!
ReplyDeleteOH, that last stanza. YES. <3
ReplyDeleteOh, Sherry, such a pretty poem. Let's study the wee little brown bird carefully, watch and listen, its every moment. Third verse says to us, if we only can, "You ... are far happier than we. Teach us..."
ReplyDelete..
Surely the ones who own only feathers have much to teach us. Would that we would learn!
ReplyDeleteYes, I need the lesson sung from feather and flight.
ReplyDeleteThat reminds me of one fateful day, three years ago, when a little female sparrow fell down from the pomegranate bush and I could not save her. She lies buried in one corner of the greens ...
ReplyDelete"you,
ReplyDeletewho own only feathers,
are far happier " ... yes, the secret of life is truly to own less - and live life NOW.
I think you are right about birds and their happiness. They ARE happier than most humans, I am sure.
