As the window to Life gently closes,
I catch one last glimpse
of my friend, the sky.
***
The candle warms but briefly,
too soon,
it flickers out.
***
After a long dark night,
my soul rises
to greet the rosy dawn.
***
At this moment,
to you, a final gift of words:
live every moment well.
***
Oh I love the thought of an advice to those left behind. How I would love to see a sky at dawn.
ReplyDeleteAh yes.. to put
ReplyDeletenow first means
only
dying once..
some folks
die all their
life.. endless
death as
worry..
in Life..:)
Lovely image of the end, at sunrise.

ReplyDeleteThank you for the wisdom: live every moment well. - Yes!
I love all of these, so simple but so profound each one. I love the third one the best, though I can't say why. Peace, Linda
ReplyDeletehaiku free verse; love it; makes superb death poems--we can only hope our life will be a long night vs. a fevered dream. This form has produced some fine poetics out her on the trail.
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of a rosy dawn greeting you after a dark night. And it would be so sweet if your last glimpse was of the sky.. Thanks so much for gracing us with some wonderful words, Sherry!
ReplyDeleteLove. Yes. "living every moment." These are moving, separately and together.

ReplyDeleteThese are poignant! And good.
ReplyDeleteThat first one really sent shivers down my spine - so good - just the right mix of mournful and hopeful. Also liked the last one, with its very sage advice.
ReplyDeleteI too would love to see the sky one last time. Their vastness would be most comforting. Lovely!
ReplyDeleteI love the last one so much, to depart with the gift of such a great advice.

ReplyDeleteYour friend, the sky. Sometimes one phrase encapsulates the whole. This one did. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteGreetings from London.
"Live every moment well". Honestly, I can't think of any better advice than that! A beautiful set of poems!
ReplyDeletePerhaps that is how we can honor the dead,
ReplyDeleteby living what time we have left - as well as we can.
Too soon, for sure.
