Yesterday -
so full of dreams and longings
and the loved ones
who shine golden
in memory
Today -
it didn't turn out
at all the way
I planned
but turned into
a better dream
than I ever could have dreamed
on my own
On the wings
of whatever comes
on some unknown
Tomorrow,
a dream I hold up
to the Ancestors:
when that day comes,
may I sail gently
into morning
and blue sky
for Mary's prompt at What's Going On - Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow

The sad note of the poem touches one deeply while the grit and power inspires specially in Today's section.

Somehow I don't think many people's lives turn out as they planned. In fact, as I think about the lives of people I know (as well as myself), I really can't think of anyone whose life did. The ending sounds to me as if you are at peace and content with your life as it is and will become as will "sail gently into morning and blue sky."

SO sad--not the gentle sailing--but the switch from planning for the world to this exit. O dear one, so we elderly may hope to let go, to have some gentle time on the way.
I love the reminder that our ancestors are "of the Earth" ... it feels comforting and reinforces the joy / peace I felt as we scattered our Mother's ashes on the bank of the beautiful Niangua River in Missouri, her most beloved place on Earth.
ReplyDeleteLove that dreams hold fast in yesterday, today and tomorrow. Some days don't turn out the way we think for the better or worse. Tomorrow, is a new day of opportunity.
ReplyDeleteI love the optimistic upswing of this piece.
ReplyDeleteA touching ending and a faith in our ancestors and the natural order - Jae
