Sunflower

You are lifting your face
to the sky,
like a sunflower
after the long winter.

Oh, the joys of peacefulness
and silence,
feeling safe after pain,
a balm to heal
old wounds.

One can never regret
the journey,
once it has brought us this far,
to where we remember
to look up at the stars,
and to rediscover
how to dream.

for Shay's Word List, and for Jae

  1. I often stop to feel grateful for my peaceful life today. Most of my life not. Your pretty poem was just the thing.

  2. What a beautiful and radiant poem - as perfectly formed as a sunflower and as rich in image as the flower head. Also liked the sense of journey too - Jae

  3. That last verse is so beautiful... here we are and there can be no regrets...a state to aspire to!

  4. Yes, like sunflowers we should always strive to tilt our heads towards the sun. There is a sense of peace and warmth in your poem.

  6. I love this gorgeous poem, Sherry. So often your poems are a healing balm in themselves.

I love that final stanza especially, to never regret the journey, look up at the stars and remember how to dream. Beautiful 🩷
