When Feeling Homeless, Read This Poem

Fellow Traveler,
do you feel like you've been
searching for home
for a lifetime?

Are you out there in the dark
storm-tossed and weary,
buffeted by winds,
with still such a long way to go?

Come home.
I'll put a candle on the sill
to light your way.
There's a fire in the hearth
and a soup-pot slow-simmering.
Comfort and kind words await.
You need only arrive.

Come home, weary traveler,
to the only home
there ever is ~
home to yourself
once again.

  3. This reminds me of a favorite hymn that I learned not in church, but from a movie called "The Trip To Bountiful."

  5. Such a wistful feel to this, as if the narrator is not only offering home but seeking it herself in that communion with others lost and alone. Really, one of my favorites you've ever written, Sherry. Sad, sweet, redeeming.

  11. Travelers tend to take care of fellow travelers. You told it well, I would come.
I would also liked the thrill of riding in a box car.

  12. Beautiful and it warms the heart to know there is soup ready for a weary traveler. "Come home to yourself again" if only one can find the way.
