METAMORPHOSIS

Print by Maria Sibylla Merian

Like the fat, busy spider,
we spun our webs
intricately,
to keep us from seeing
too closely
that the choices
we were making
were weaving
an unbalanced world.

Now the wild world
which we have so long abused
has bitten us back.

We are left with a choice:
to continue along
a path of destruction,
or to begin to restore and heal
Mother Earth and ourselves.

66 words for Words Count with Mama Zen at Real Toads.   Mama Zen, we miss you!

The link between the wild exotic "wet" markets in Wuhan, the virus and humans has been proven.  The markets were closed at the beginning of the pandemic. My heart sank when I learned they were re-opened as soon as the lockdown lifted. It seems we learn nothing.

  1. "We" had better get our act together. I doubt another layer added to the chain is helping much. Also, there will be a next time.

  2. Interesting that "intricately" suggests myopic vision ... and not paying attention, we get bit indeed. Keep getting out the word!

  3. An apt comparison, Sherry! I like the image of humans as fat, busy spiders ‘weaving an unbalanced world’ and the world biting back.

  4. This is perfectly stated. Such a lesson from nature that even the deaf, dumb and greedy politicians and corporates have had to tale notes.

  6. Agree...the wild world bites back...changes must be made. Did you know for the first time in 30 years the Himalayan peaks are visible...nature is breathing

  8. Tis, my hope our eyes will open to see all that has gone wrong. I have to wonder if we will ever learn as a human species.
