Starfire When We Pass

Step into the circle, sister mine,
and feel our bond
through all the years of time
that brought us through
times beautiful and dire,
to this moment when
we step into
blue fire.

I lived a love
that became mine alone.
He knew not how to
for his past atone,
returned the gift,
and went off on his own,
so I carried it
through all the years:
a poem.

In the circle,
we return where we belong,
where all the loves we lost
are worth the cost.
We are finite.
We are also infinite,
each one note
in the universal song.
Our lives create
sweet memories that will last.
As the veil lifts,
we step through the looking-glass.
We transform into starfire
when we pass.

  1. I love the idea of turning into star fire and all the possibilities that holds (but not for a while yet)

  2. There is an overwhelming sadness in this despite passing through the looking glass into starfire. Love however can be found in many other places too as I am sure you have in your beautiful poetry and love of the natural world.

  4. ‘In the circle,
    we return where we belong,
where all the loves we lost
    are worth the cost’
    and
    ‘We transform into starfire
    when we pass.’
    This is my hope, Sherry.

  6. This is so finely structured — the ending lines of each stanza are such portals into The Next, and all of it is pure invitation--to the heart, to starlight. Wonderful Sherry.

  7. This is wonderfully magic... the thought of what we can find in that circle, meeting our past, it feels so hopeful with a moment when all comes together.

  9. Wow. I like the imagery of passing through the looking glass and becoming starfire. I imagined you with a poem in your pocket.

  12. I so love the hope in this poem, Sherry! It's so palpable that I can taste it!❤️ These lines are gorgeous:

    " Our lives create
    sweet memories that will last.
    As the veil lifts,
    we step through the looking-glass.
    We transform into starfire
    when we pass."

    ❤️❤️

  13. I love that glorious, natural, and peaceful ending. When we are meant to be "transform[ed] into starfire", rocky living doesn't seem to matter all that much.

  14. I like how the spirit of camaraderie weaves through this, and how her sisters in the dance are with her through the highs and lows.

  15. Sherry, this is transcendent! I love the image of starfire and how everything lived is made worthwhile returning there.

  16. Of being both finite and infinite as the same time. An interesting observation, Sherry.

  17. We ARE both finite and infinite at the same time. I love the passing into starfire when we die. We came from the stars, it is only right that we return to them.

  18. Such a lovely poem! I must meditate on it as I consider my future - perhaps a short time on this earth but an eternity as starfire.

(Just stopped by to read your entry. My muse is so sound asleep. I didn't participate today.)

  19. This creates its own ceremony as one reads. A mesmerizing shift from entrance to a rush of starfire...wow. :)

  20. I'm with you here, even though mine left the years, times and children we had together will not be forgotten. My new love does know how to but I keep reminding her of mine by every now and then showing her the drawing I made and carry in the folds of my Bible. It is a heart with an arrow through it captioned, "'Mrs. Jim's' arrow, she captured my heart."

  22. I love the beautiful, lyrical quality in this poem … somewhat akin to a mystical incantation, when read aloud. The wonderful word crafting and inspired rhythm and rhyme create a 'miraculous' mood … that place where 'legends' stir, and linger. A very moving piece, Sherry … stunning, really.

  23. This is gorgeous, Sherry! I too love the starfire – and also:
    we return where we belong,
where all the loves we lost
    are worth the cost.
    and:
    each one note
    in the universal song.
