Weeds, weeds, everywhere
in Kelowna's thriving soil.
Hot sun, smiling boy.
From small seeds and hopes,
we grew more than we knew then.
We grew tomorrow.
Smiles in summer sun;
not knowing the tears to come:
it's better that way.
When I planted seeds,
I grew children as well as
the food that filled them.
for Susan's prompt at Midweek Motif: Gardens. I had a huge garden when my kids were growing like weeds, in an effort to keep their hungry tummies full. I loved growing things: gardens and children both. Those were happy years.
Children do sprout up like seeds! I love the writing/picture pairs.

Sherry this is so wonderful! I love the pairing of words with the sweet photos.
ReplyDeleteSherry,
ReplyDeleteI love this poem for both its seasonal connection and the journey of growth and sustenance with your children.
Your proof that a garden truly is a lifetime walk:)
Sherry, I do believe you have a nurturing heart and your garden is filled with your love.
ReplyDeleteThese grow/go together quite well--a garden of children and the things they can eat! That garden is HUGE!
ReplyDeleteEverything's done with such sweetness and heart, including this poem. A true gardener you are.
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful and nostagic poem this is Sherry, but the sadness is there to forever weep over.

- lovely!
Wow, what a lovely poem! And the smiles on those little faces are just precious.
ReplyDeleteI love these pictures of your children.Lovely memories and times.
ReplyDeleteThese read like short (haiku-like) poems to me. Each a different part of the garden's structure (memory). A stunning picture and words, Sherry. A deep sharing which I enjoyed.
