Wolfsong

from deviant art

follow a raven
and find a wolf
hear her gobble-cry,
his soft whuff

up on the ridge
where wild grasses grow
they tarry to listen
while the west wind blows

the wolf sings out
when the full moon beams
hear his howl
threading through your dreams

out on the desert
before the dawn
you can look for his tracks
but he'll be gone

at the end of the trail
near the Joshua Tree
a big black wolf
waits for only me

one from 2012 to be shared with the Poetry Pantry at Poets United - great reading every Sunday morning.

  2. Nothing is more deklightful that to sit quietly in a forest or some other wild place and let the wild life come up to check you out. If only we had more sanctuaries not availble for mining drilling or development wher we can ensure our fellow inhabitants on Earth can live their lives without fear or oppression.

  9. Love the way you create an image that I can hear & feel in a poem that I could almost hear sung. :)

  11. The picture is a classic presentation of light and shadows of black and white very much in line with the flow of the words.

  12. This chimes in my heart! For me not a storybook feel so much as incantatory, and the stuff of legends (which are deep truths).

    1. The wolf and raven are both magical creatures and your poem reflects that (as much as the inspiring picture).

  16. Oh Sherry. How blessed you are to have a wolf waiting for you. The images and the rhymes in this are so full of magic. The rhythm of this walks us along with you on that path of starlight and dreams.

  17. A lone wolf howls when he's lonely in the night. A raven flies solo when it's sick and tired of life.

  20. Lovely and lyrical. I see this - in my mind's eye - as an illustrated children's book. Wouldn't that be wonderful!
