On the Second Day........
On the second day of the fourth month,
she searched the rafters
for a golden thought,
elusive.
Amber light warmed the room,
as comforting as toast
on an English teatable.
The marmalade cat struck one
and the cuckoo clock tumbled
off the mantle.
It was that kind of day.
On the second day of the fourth month,
she searched the rafters
for a golden thought,
elusive.
These words tumbled into my head, and mine is not to question why, lol.....it is Day Two of NaPoWriMo, and Karin at Real Toads has asked us to contemplate "Second", in any of its forms.
Yes, thoughts can be elusive, and they can crowd the room as well! I'm glad they are coming in response to your invitation.
ReplyDeleteI love the opening lines, Sherry.. and the marmalade cat!
ReplyDeleteI love it!
ReplyDeleteI agree, thoughts can be evasive. At times they drown us and then there are other times too.. !
ReplyDeleteSherry - I may have said it before at other times, but this is an all time favourite - somewhere between Zen & Lear
ReplyDeleteThose opening lines are pure gold, Sherry!❤️ Love this!
ReplyDeleteI love the cozy scene and the tumbling cuckoo clock!
ReplyDeleteJust love the ginger cat. Another fine write, Sherry. By the way thank you for dropping by my blog.
ReplyDeleteI love the marmalade cat but then, I have a thing for marmalade cats. The opening and closing stanzas are pure wonder.
ReplyDeleteWow! My new favorite. Away with that cuckoo clock! Get comfortable. The picture's a winner, too.
ReplyDeleteWhat a cozy scene, I love it, a warm place to search for elusive golden thoughts :-)
ReplyDeleteHow wonderfully playful, yet somehow real,
ReplyDeleteElizabeth
I now bear a smile a Cheshire mile wide - thanks!
ReplyDeleteFive really nice 'golden thoughts' you found, Sherry. Good job.
ReplyDeleteI have to blurt out a thought because I know it won't stay long with me.
ReplyDeleteDelightful! A little bit Alice-in-Wonderland; must be that cat.
ReplyDeleteGolden thoughts are elusive but so worth the wait
