The Colour of Our Hearts

Why is it that so many people
see skin first,
when looking at
a fellow human being?

It seems to me
that we should see
only the colour
of our hearts.

I have never really understood division over skin colour. I just see human beings. I have a problem with my own skin colour, if anything, as it is the colour of oppressors of people of colour all over the world through millenia.  So difficult to understand this bias.

  4. Even though I grew up in England in the 1940's and 1950's when there was a lot of immigration from colonial countries, my parents never showed any prejudice and that was instilled in me. I am glad to see that in my own children too.

  5. I completely agree. In fact, I go a bit further and think black is beautiful ... also brown and golden.

    1. I must add that, like Robin, I was very well brought up in this respect. (And indeed, I have a bit of brown in my Anglo-Indian heritage, but unfortunately it doesn't show.)

    2. I think all the brown tones are far lovelier than our pink ones........

  6. Sherry, an important point, and having been at the receiving end of racism I can tell you it is widespread and deep and hardly going away anywhere. Don't know what goes through the minds of people who discriminate based on colour... but it definitely is quite sickening.

If only this is feasible, it can solve many outstanding issues that seem to have dogged the decision makers! Great thoughts Sherry!
