When Hope Feels a Lot Like Denial

We won't be working on
reducing fossil fuel emissions by 2020,
funding is cut for science,
scientific information is being "disappeared",
global warming has been expunged
from public discussion,
even while we are standing
in water up to our knees
on the main street of town,
and polar bears are swimming
ten miles in search of ice.

But NASA has the trumpster's okay
to plan a mission to Mars,
for eleventy kazillion dollars,
because it would make him famous.
They can use all the money they cut
from assistance programs needed
by humans and other creatures
here on earth.

The news is bad.
It is so bad
hope begins to feel
a lot like denial.

The only upside of this latest folly
is maybe trump can be the first man sent
on the mission to Mars.
Then, it might be worth the money.

Sigh. For Susan's prompt at Midweek Motif: the news.

  1. Sorry. Trump may be my president, but he lost me on that 1st debate.

  2. And then that will be news indeed. You captured the big ones--and so far it's all just in the news, I think. But the figures reported for the millions in security we pay for DT homes and businesses is already happening. Let me join that sigh.

  6. Talk about global warming, over the next 4 days, Toronto is suppose to get 45-64 mm of rain. Have already started to genetically modify my body, to have webbed feet and hands, to swim, in the flood waters. Dumb trumpster.

  7. The first act of a head of state is to unite a country with trust and hope not to divide it with fear. Never has the western world been so threatened as it is today by such foreboding and uncertainty.

  8. The place i live has been hit with a tsunami , flood and cyclone all happening sooner than the previous disaster but lets feign ignorance and bow down to the fossil fuels lobby.
I wish we could send a bunch of these vote hungry politicians up to mars and have actual leaders ruling us.

  9. I always think why man spend so much for such ideas when lots more is there to be done on earth; it is like cutting your own branch. Nice take on the prompt!

  15. Every time I read, hear, think about his latest nonsense I want to scream. I know screaming doesn't do much, but it's better than banging my head against the wall.

I wish, I wish, I wish that he goes to explore Mars. I know it won't happen, but a girl can dream.

    Glorious closing, Sherry.

  17. trump is not my president. Send him to Mars, strapped on the outside of the rocket. he should find out the hard hot way first before our planet finishes it's scorching and flooding cycles.

  18. I find myself hitting the mute button as soon as his face appears on the news. How we have allowed that buffoon to become president stuns me. He is a national embarrassment.
