The Language of Clouds

Looking at the sky, we long to learn
the language of clouds, of mountaintops.
Mother Sky, teach me
how to sing like small bird, like raven,
like Owl.
Quiet my heart, so I may listen
to the breath of Grandfather Cedar,
and learn to speak tree,
to speak river,
to speak wind.

Transform my soul
to make me worthy of
learning to sing
in whalesong.
Lead me along the shore,
to count the waves,
my heart singing
joyously and forever
the song of Ocean.

One from 2015, which I will share with the Poetry Pantry, where you will find fine reading of a Sunday morning.

  2. Love the desire to know and be part of. Wasn't it Merlin who knew all these languages? Of the animals, I think, but not the most interesting elemental aspects of earth.

  5. Yes, if only. We would be rich indeed, with these gifts! But still we will be quiet, and we will listen. Perhaps we are like my kitty, he speaks his own language, and has no need to learn what I speak, as he seems to know it all? Do we think we know it all? Yes, I answer my own question, "man" does think he knows it all, and yet, his actions tell us he is foolish!

  6. This is full of wants shared by my soul, of song I want to sing, of words I want to feed on and make true... Such a lovely chant, Sherry.

  8. This is such an open-hearted and joyful piece. It makes me want to stand in the middle of a green place and say the words.

  9. Anyone can learn to speak tree, to speak river, to speak wind. Unfortunately, there are few who desire to do so. You are one of the few. Be blessed.

  15. There are far too few who seek to know these other languages, and that is sad indeed...

  16. This is wonder-full in its transcendence and, for me, articulates the yearning to move beyond the limitations of our 'humanness'. "Transform my soul" is so impactful ... in essence, take my spiritually to the next level, where I will have full communion with the earth. A fantastic piece of writing, Sherry.

Who knows: perhaps, it is possible to transform to that forever song of ocean ... a bliss we never return from.

  18. Sadly most of us are like truants from Mother Earth's teachings. The sooner all the idiots on Earth go off the colonize Mars the better.
